New flood insurance rules have consequences for Florida's economy | Tampa Bay Times Read this article for an update on what's happening to flood insurance rates in Florida effective Oct 1 because of the Biggert-Waters Act passed by congress in 2012. One new home owner's rates are increasing from $1700 per year to $10,000 to $12,000 per year. |

The OP's experience is exactly why I stay away from the Town Squares. Along with that issue is the fact that the dance area is overcrowded, especially with line dancers.
I thoroughly enjoy dancing but the circumstances at the town squares are not conducive for couples dancing. Beside which I can not condone seat savers:D |

thank the original poster for asserting that it is only "some" that do that or any other obnoxious behavior.
I certainly would not give a thought to not going to the squares or not moving here or moving here due to what are nothing more than ISOLATED incidents. And as was already stated the size of TV has nothing to do with the incident or incidents like it. Inconsiderate folks exist in any size community. The 98+ percent of us live in and enjoy TV and have done so since the population was 30,000!!! btk |

Seat savers are not a problem. Bring a chair, set it where you want and enjoy The Villages lifestyle. |

Not too big. There has always been a divide between the social drinkers and the heavy drinkers. I feel bad for people who have the need to arm themselves with what us Germans used to call "Dutch Courage" to have a fun evening. If we were all alike we would have no one to feel superior to. |
I have a problem with people that never drink.:loco: Way to weird for me to tolerate sober.:beer3:

We often go to the square for just a short time. We have been fortunate to not experience any rude behavior. Quite the opposite - folks go out of their way to indicate if chairs are open. While I'm sure there are instances of overindulgence, we have not personally observed it. At LSL the line dancers stay to one side of the floor. Rarely if ever has the dance floor been crowded except with Rocky and the Rollers.

If I remember correctly when you were here a couple of years ago you had your children visiting with their small children most of the time. You rented a home north of 466 with it's own pool and spent a good deal of time at the residence you had rented. I think to get the feel of The Villages, you need to be here without guests and spend some time at the squares, the pools, the rec centers and with groups of us TOTVrs. I so hope you will make the best choice to be the happiest you can be. Many of us love this place. Many like us don't go to the squares much either. |
When it comes to partying one of the biggest problems with my first marriage was she couldn't stand me drunk and I couldn't stand her sober. So, there you go!

The human brain can operate only as fast as the slowest brain cells through which the electrical signals pass. Recent epidemiological studies have shown that while excessive intake of alcohol kills off brain cells, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. Thus, regular consumption of beer, wine etc., helps eliminate the weaker cells, constantly making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. The result of this in-depth study verifies and validates the causal link between all-weekend parties and job related performance. It also explains why, after a few short years of leaving a university and getting married, most professionals cannot keep up with the performance of the new graduates. Only those few that stick to the strict regimen of voracious alcoholic consumption can maintain the intellectual levels that they achieve during their college years. I know this to be true because I read it on the internet |
It seems to me that all these complaints about seat hogs, rudeness and drunks are due to cheapskates piling in at the squares to get the cheap Happy Hour drinks!
We always go to the squares a bit later, after happy hours are over, to avoid the sun and heat. If you go between 7-9pm there's no problem with seating nor "drunks". A little bit of flexibility goes a long way. Go a little bit later. Why do people want to sit there in one chair for 4 hours anyway??? |
