If it wasn’t for the threat of hurricanes living here would be just about perfect. There’s always an occasional blip but overall it’s wonderful. When we visit family in Southern Florida I can’t wait to get back home from the minute we leave.

Totally agree, except I’ll add the Villages being in the lightning capital of the country. Lap swimming and golf are my favorite two activities. Submersing oneself in an excellent conductor of electricity and walking in open spaces holding a lightning rod are kind of dangerous in these parts.

That being said, I almost never wish I was at our home up north when at our Villages home, but I constantly yearn to get back to the Villages when up north.

I miss having a lawn to actually be proud of. Had a little over an acre and enjoyed every minute on the tractor cutting beautiful grass or even removing the snow from the driveway. My neighbor and I always had a contest going as to who was going to come up with the most interesting pattern for the mowing. Our Kentucky Blue Grass was perfect as opposed to resembling crab grass down here. In extreme northern Illinois, we were away from the city of Chicago, so living was quite peaceful and uncrowded. I do not miss the high taxes or the State politics in Illinois. It may be the only state with governors producing license plates while incarcerated.

Absolutely nothing. Will never go back.

Other than family, I miss being out in the country, spending time out doors in the Allegheny Mountains, lack of traffic, lack of crowds, and most of all autumn weather, my favorite time of the year. I often wish I could go back to those days and just spend 3 or 4 months in Florida, preferably in a beach community but my wife doesn't agree with me so it ain't gonna happen.

Besides my children and grandchildren, I really miss my spring flowers and living close to the ocean. Other than that, I miss nothing. Not the high property taxes, state income taxes, the high heating bills, high electric bills in the summer when running the AC, the ice, the snow, continuous grey days...I don't miss any of it!

Ohiobuckeye

I played a lot of billiards & golf & I miss the people. Live in Texas now but even TV is changing to the worst. Personally if I ever move again I would move back to Ohio, only because of family. I miss them terribly, but not the cold winters. When I die I want to be buried in Ohio. I’ll be 73 in a month!

From Indiana
I miss shoveling snow until I can't feel my fingers then coming in and melding water from my wet boots all over the floor.

I miss all the pot holes in the roads in spring.

I miss autumn when all the leaves fall off the trees and the grass turns brown and dies.

I miss chipping ice from the wind shield and fighting the commute to work

LOL, Sounds like part of another world, but yes, I wouldn't miss this either.

To OP . Have you been fishing in FL ? Have you seen the awesome birds? How many Packer’s games have you actually been to ? Just questions I have for you. Maybe you should get out more now that you aren’t in the Midwest anymore

Love The Villages lifestyle BUT miss New England. Kind of tired of Tropical! Too Hot and always on my guard for snakes, palmetto bugs, etc! Eek! I remember reading a bumper sticker on a car up North (years ago) which said: I'll take New England any day!
Yup, I agree. Miss the real 4 seasons, unlike Florida - warm, hot, hotter, hottest.

I miss the fall colors, raking leaves, cider mills, fresh picked apples, hay rides

Snow falling at 3am, waving at neighbors shoveling along with you.

Going to the ski slopes with the family, enjoying the day

Beginning of spring, when all the flowers break ground, and the lilac festival at the Grand Hotel

Swimming in the Great Lakes, cold and all, climbing the dunes after.

The acre of our beautiful bluegrass lawn, that looks and feels like velvet.

Florida is still feels like a long vacation for me, maybe that will change some day

In rural Illinois - missed the smell of new mowed grass (totally different from the grass here).
In Montgomery County Maryland - missed the Beltway traffic (not!), missed the high crime rate (not!), missed the unbelievably high tax rate of Federal, State, County which was equal to State (not!).
I love, Love, LOVE Florida and I feel like I hit the lotto living here. The best State in the US and especially since things that have happened during Covid.
