Super crowded already at the Walmart Neighborhood Store on Heald Way tonight at 7 pm. Water flying off the shelves as quick as they could put it out. Lots of lines at the gas pumps too.

I'll never understand why the rush on bottled water. The water from your faucet is perfectly fine right now. Fill some pots, pitchers and what not.

I fill the tub with water for flushing toilets. I'll never forget that advice from Bryan Norcross in south Florida before hurricane Andrew. If you sanitize your tub, you can also drink that water if necessary.

You do realize that when people evacuate this is where they come!

Now that is funny. I would not mind seeing more of Sandra Shaw. She covers Miami. Her "Shaw off the Wall" episodes are funny and creative.

Melissa Peterman as Stormy Weather (weather girl) on the Reba show. This is too funny.......

Lol...just like in the North .....snow storm coming...run out for bread, milk and eggs

Went to Sams this morning, gas lines just slightly longer than normal and same for cashier lines. Lots of people buying TP, just do not understand why they need so much just before hurricane

Yup. This is why we do not live near the coast. But, having said that, a tornado can do a lot of damage and The Villages did have one come through in 2007.

Why did it change from Hermine to Ian?

Another storm formed just before this one did, taking the name Hermine.

It didn’t, new storm, Hermine just went a different direction.

Off to buy a truckload of TP so we can sell it and start to live in the style we would like to become accustomed to.

Or perhaps water.

Went to Sam's Club today. They had a ton of TP but no water.

Do you remember how much rain Irma dumped? Was it in the 30 inch range?
Thanks!

Luckily for us the eye blew apart at Tampa Bay and we had winds around 50 mph.
Mangrove Sweetwater and Turtle Mound had flooded cart paths and greens.

A lot of the golf cart tunnels were under water like those under CR101 near Southern Trace and the one near the Oxford Walmart. This was during and after Irma.

Ian information-- TROPICAL STORM IAN

richardc1947 09-25-2022 05:04 AM

I believe the threat is from Ian, not Hermines.

We measured about 9 inches total over 2 days.
if I remember correctly, most courses were closed for a few days after the storm. They had sprinklers on for 2-3 days before it hit and during the storm. Kept the ponds at a safe level.

We were here during Irma and while after the fact it may have seemed to have been over-hyped prior to its arrival, I think complacency and over-confidence - can be dangerous. Particularly given that regardless of the eventual track of Ian, spinning off tornadoes (especially at night) can become pretty serious - pretty quickly. I just hope that wherever ends up being the target, the people and property - are not devastated.

I assume the OP was referring to Ian and not Hermine. Hermine fizzled out off the coast of Africa. Ian is now forecast to track further west towards the panhandle instead of coming ashore near Tampa which would've put us right in its path. Appears all that clean Villages life we lead spared us.....this time. :1rotfl::1rotfl:

TD 9 was originally projected to develop into a named storm before TD 10 did (if it ever did) which would have resulted in it receiving the hame Hermine. TD 10 surprised the experts and strengthened quicker and so claimed the name.

VN reporting many gas stations have run out

fcgiii 09-25-2022 06:06 PM

the Walmart in Colony is open until 11 PM. We went there last night around 9 PM and there were no big food lines and no gas lines either. People were carrying out packs of bottled water. No shortages that we could see.
