Can—- go more than 20 MPH (that don’t mean they have to). My car can go more than any speed limit.

Speed limit in my villa 10 MPH only walkers go less than 10 MPH. Even joggers exceed 10 MPH speed limit.

i personally have no problems with village drivers. They are the most thoughtful and courteous drivers i have had the honor and privilege to drive alongside.

The sign isn't an "instruction." It is a "for your information."

It's not ordering you to slow down on THAT road, immediately, until you see another sign saying otherwise.

What it's telling you, is that "by the way - IF you are driving IN the Villages, THEN the speed limit will be 20mph - unless you pass a sign that specifies otherwise."

In my area the speed limit is 25, except near the rec center, where the sign specifies it's 15. Most people abide by the 25MPH in our area. But most people don't slow down at the 15MPH sign, they just keep blowing past the postal station, fire dept, and rec center at 25.

If you need to explain a road sign, then something is wrong. The sign would be more appropriately located on Pinellas Place, where you are actually entering a residential area and not driving on a 45 mph throughway.

And this is why you must drive around The Villages with eyes in the back of your head. The number of people who can't read a road sign, don't know the rules of the road and can't even figure out who has the right of way is staggering!

The sign says “unless otherwise posted.” There are 45 MPH signs posted in some places along 466A in The Villages. That’s why people are not doing 20 MPH most likely.

A lotta verbiage regarding what the sign says or means.....when almost nobody does the speed limit anywhere in TV.

When we first moved here (18 years ago!) there used to be speed traps on major roads. As the years have gone by the only conclusion one can reach, based on actual road experience......there is no speed limit.....and there is no enforcement.

Let the sign debate continue!!!

They've all said it, it's a memo marker in case you don't know then that's the speed.... However that speed limit is typically reserved for school zones and requires a special study and approval to get for residential areas. I went though this in my old HOA and found that we just can't post that, we first have to go through a study, review the results, determine if going that drastic is truly necessary, how it will be enforced, and much more.. In fact the 2 times board members went for it they were denied both times as the initial review said it's far too slow they would only approve 25 as the minimum we could post.

just a tidbit of additional info is all, no need for more flames on this fire.

I'm not sure. I think it means that the default speed limit in The Villages is 20 mph, unless there is another posted limit. But, I don't think that Rt 466A is actually in The Villages. I could be wrong, but I don't think the intention is for people to be driving at or below 20 mph on any section of Rt 466A. But, I can understand that the OP would think the speed limit on Rt 466A is 20 mph at that point. So, if the sign is actually located on Rt 466A, it should probably be moved to a roadway that is actually in The Villages

At one point in time, 466A was the end of the southern Villages. With the development south of 466A, from where I sit, that makes sections of 466A smack dab in the middle of The Villages.

Once upon a time, while Lake Sumter Landing was under construction, during lease negotiations it was stated, along with map on the wall.....that LSL would be the hub location of TV (which we all know now is/was the Morse plan before passing).

We personally still look at it that way.

Joe C. 07-31-2022 09:03 AM

You can't be given a speeding ticket in Florida unless you are doing in excess of 5 MPH over the posted limit. So the 20MPH is a moot point.
Speed limits are enforceable only if you get caught, and there aren't enough LEO'S to monitor traffic 24/7.
I'm content to do the speed limit or 5 over. But I believe that posted speed limits are designed for the dumbest drivers.
