Driving ā€œLessā€ than the Speed

In the grand scheme of things even going 5 mph faster on the turnpike doesn’t get you there that much faster but the slight advantage of going 5 mph faster on Rio Grande is even less.

That’s when you pull up next to them, wave with a big smile. 🤣

It's about time they start cracking down on speeders in the Villages! Now they need to work on Morse, Buena vista and Hillsbourgh and so on!

Thank you!

From the other place.

""In the effort to crack down on speeding, a deputy recently snared a speeding golf cart driver traveling at 35 miles per hour. In that case, the golf cart driver was issued a criminal citation, not just an ordinary speeding ticket. Golf carts are supposed to travel at no more than 20 mph.
ā€œIt’s pretty serious,ā€ Siemer said. ā€œWhen you get a criminal citation, you have to go in front of a judge.ā€

Can't wait for complaints that LE is getting too active!

I have a friend who lives a block from Chula Vista. Sometimes we go to concerts together at the Sharon. To reach her (on Palermo), I take the Chula Vista gate from 466. After I pick her up, I proceed down Chula Vista to Rio Grande to Avenida Central. Chula Vista is the through street for at least a couple hundred homes in that area. It is more than just a residential street like the rest of the streets in the area. It’s wide enough for easy two lane traffic with parking on both sides. That’s not the way it is with most streets here. If the Chula Vista gate weren’t there, I would have to take Morse up to Rio Grande, THEN TRAVEL SOUTH ON CHULA VISTA.

While it’s possible that there are those who take the Chula Vista gate as a shortcut from 466 to Spanish Springs (it is), I suspect that most of the traffic (and most of the speeders) are going from the Chula Vista gate to a home in the area or going from a home in the neighborhood to Spanish Springs. Closing the Chula Vista gate would be a hardship for hundreds of neighborhood homeowners.

I applaud the ticketing, but I would oppose closing the gate.

Bunch of clowns, wanting laws enforced, amirite?
No one should have to follow laws. Law breakers should be rewarded, not punished for breaking laws.

What a horrible place the Villages has become. Everyone should immediately sell and move to places where laws are not enforced!

My sentiments exactly.
Buena Vista has turned back into a speedway. Last year it was actually civilized for a while.

Florida Statute 318.18

(b)ā€ƒFor moving violations involving unlawful speed, the fines are as follows:
For speed exceeding the limit by:
Fine:
1-5 mph..........Warning
6-9 mph..........$25
10-14 mph..........$100
15-19 mph..........$150
20-29 mph..........$175
30 mph and above..........$250

Exceed the posted limit by 5 MPH or less in Florida you can only get a warning. Maybe there is a city ordinance that allows local PD to write for less than 5?

Unless there is another reason to stop the vehicle then going 5 MPH over seems a safe bet.

So... anyone advocating for law enforcement is a clown? Spoken like someone with a history of civil disobedience.

Don't you mean "now they have to deal with the satisfaction" that there is finally a solution to all the old goats, (male and female), who don't have the common sense to allow enough time to travel from point A to point B without speeding? If they can't figure that out they shouldn't be on the road.

If you want to drive like a maniac, buy some open land, get an old truck and race around on it as fast as you can. Your antics on the public highways aren't entertaining.

I would think that 99% of the people going north or south from Spanish Springs use Morse.

Who cares how many use it? This is about catching the speeders and it's about time that area has some relief.

Not sure what you are stating here

It's not rocket science, the statement can be interpreted to fit the situation.

On this subject...traffic enforcement....I have always said...the more cops the better hence more tickets for the violators.

Self funded by ticket revenue...no problem.

La lamy 07-20-2025 01:50 PM

I actually was stopped by a cop for not doing a complete stop around there in a golf cart!! I thought that's what every Villager does, but I now know better!

I had no idea this was not clear, 3 separate violators. Btw, there was a time, true confession, I was a speeder, giggle snort, young and foolish, now, I’m old and tired and not fond of tire tracks on my body or my neighbors, Really!! To tell you the truth when we moved here, I wasn’t sure my car could go 25 mph, tee hee. I’m a quick learner and hope all of you drive safe BECAUSE. There could be a Morgan and Morgan in your future!

jimhoward 07-20-2025 09:15 PM

The Villages has the most benign traffic of anywhere I have lived. Its hard to get overly excited about a few speeders or for that matter a few slow pokes.

Absolutely.

If you decide to travel up/down The Villages the speed limit is 35.

If you have a problem with that, set your GPS to highways outside TV. Anyone living in TV knew the speed limit before they got here.

Why do you think you can speed? Pay the ticket!

Spanish Springs to Pine Hills village. Chula Vista , west on 466 south on CR100 turns into Cherry Lake rd to Lake Ella to Micro Racetrack. Much better than Rolling Acres especially now

Maybe.

Google maps says it's a wash. With a left turn from 466 and construction on 100 it could slow it down a bit but may not more than the red lights and traffic on 441.

That answered the question. If I'm up at Spanish Springs in a car then it might be faster to get to the Walmart Neighborhood Market via Chula Vista.

Exactly. For some people, 10-15 mph is safe and prudent. For others, 25-30 would be safe and prudent. The problem is, I don’t need others to tell me where I fit in. So I wave, when I pass.

Too many 'Villagers" find fault like there was a reward for it. They are like toddlers leaving a mess everywhere they go then sit down and cry when someone challenges them.

At Don Wiley's Sunday forum some were whining about stepped up enforcement.

No word on how many tickets were for 'Villagers' vs the community at large.

Obey or pay.

mpcolonel 07-21-2025 06:13 AM

Not speed trap

Not a speed trap the speed stays the same. Speed traps have a quick decrease in the speed limit. Follow the speed limit there’s no trap😁

Same thing happened to me. He gave me a warning because I did stop but it wasn't a Full Stop, but I know of another woman who argued with the officer and he gave her a $150 ticket.

The State of Florida offeres a number of driver improvement schools.

Driver Improvement Schools - Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles

golfing eagles 07-21-2025 08:00 AM

On a related note, 10 minutes ago I was driving northbound on BV just past SeaBreeze. A vehicle was chugging along at 30 in the left lane (in violation of Florida law) . I passed it on the right and stayed in the right lane behind 2 vehicles that were going 45(not justifying that). Within a short time the vehicle that I passed sped up to 50+, passed all 3 of us, pulled ahead into the right lane and slowed back down to 30. THIS is the driver that should be ticketed. And it supports my theory that there is a subset of drivers that want to slug along usually in the left lane, but get irate if someone passes them

There is certainly more to that story then is being told.

Not necessarily. Contempt of cop is a thing and looking a gift horse in the mouth has repurcussions.
