Default Stock cart racing

Am I to believe that there is actually a move afoot to begin Saturday night Stock cart racing at the polo field? A friend of mine who says he is involved in the events, is planning to begin preparing his cart with numbers, shoulder harness, roll cage, sponsor decals and safety equipment.

He's got to be kidding.

Jan,

I would find that hard to believe; I'm no racing aficionado, but, it seems the facility would be too small for stock cars; also, would conflict with polo season;

One call to the entertainment dept would probably yield an answer.

Cool, If they use the road that goes around the polo field that would make it a one mile oval. Now we will see who has their cart cranked up. Main starts at dusk.

as in go-karts? certainly not golf carts.

I just assumed it was a typo and he meant stock cars not carts.

Jan????

There is a go kart track just off 466A east of Colony Plaza.

Default Cart Racing

Yes, Golf Cart Racing at the Polo Field! It's on the list right after Parking Meters in Spanish Springs.

Of course the really funny part is that to be a legit golf cart you can't exceed 19.6 mph. Every cart will be circling at the same speed!
Like something out of a Seinfeld episode.

Then it's all driver skill...and daring! Bumper cars come to mind!

If there is any kernal of fact to this rumor, perhaps it is that the NASCAR fan club (or whatever its official name is) is sponsoring some type of car show at the Polo Fields prior to a drive in movie. I believe this is to happen on 9/25. I vaguely recall reading about this in the paper a few weeks back.

I really can't believe there would be official golf cart races....

The 19 MPH speed limit for golf carts has been discussed a lot of times.
I don't know if it's 19.6 or 19.8 but I know from all of the discussion here that if a "cart" exceeds that limit it becomes by defintion a "Low Speed Vehicle" (LSV) and you need a license and insurance.
I wasn't trying to make a point about the specifics of the speed but rather point out the humor in a bunch of folks (with numbers, sponsors, roll cages etc - as TH humorously discussed) would be driving aroun in a big crcle all going the same slow seed. Seemed funny to me.

And I understand that there will be a timer official and if your cart is caught going over the 19.6 speed limit you will be sent to the pits for one lap.

If I'm not mistaken it is not illegal to 'soup' up your cart to go faster than 19.6.

It is illegal to actually go over 19.6 (except LSV's that are street legal).

So perhaps you go turn off that governor and let it rip at the Polo field race track.

I'd pay a few bucks to watch that mayhem!
