That surprises me. Wonder why, when they don’t for other holidays that fall on Mondays.

We’ve been here since 2005 and were also surprised that so many local people are not off for the Federal holidays. I’ve had Deans show up on July 4th. They told me that they’re free to take the holiday off but they’re not paid for the holiday, so they’d rather work and get paid.

Florida is a right to work state, very few benefits and holidays--think about it, if you worked in Fl , could you afford to retire in The Villages ?

Which ones are you talking about? Looks to me they work ALL Monday holidays unless Christmas and New Year fall on Monday.

There are 27 right to work states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Kansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming .

There are quite a few people from those states living in TV. I don't know where you get the idea that in right to work states you receive pauper wages.

Florida is basically a service, tourist industry state--without manufacturing salaries are very low
