I have a cottage home built in 2009 and my taxes went up nearly $500. Go figure.

To make up the difference I'll pass on lunch once a month at Culver's. After not raising my tax's on this home for nine years. Thank you Sumter County and school board.

Was it last purchased in 2009?

Doesn't the new tax rate go into effect in 2020 in which case we wouldn't know yet what our tax bill would be?

It appears to me that folks that bought a home in the new development area are not very pleased. Several people at the pool mentioned there are no restaurants there, and traveling over the future bridges requires a lot of time and is not practical. I was told by a person who worked in the area that building homes backed up to a major highway is very noisy, smelly and not popular, also the daily Federal prison loud speaker noise and the blasting from the stone quarry all adds up to a future BIG time failure. Does that mean we are expected to also pay for that as well?? Allowing anyone to raise taxes without any oversight is just asking for trouble in the future.

Based on the number of homes sold in the area and still selling as fast as they are available.

Hence the minority report is duly recognized.

The prison noise/lights/smells/etc is a haters generated urban legend.
Quarry blasting ditto.

I guess you are saying that most people do not investigate the surrounding facilities or maybe even read the HOA agreements. Guess we need to better educate our population so they know how to evaluate big purchases.
