I truly don't understand this whole discussion, and I know TPK's heart is in the right place. Seat belts in golf carts are inexpensive. If you want them, buy them, especially when weighed against the fact that most of us have bought new carts worth $8-10k. I don't know why people feel the need to get something "free", or even subsidized.

Trust me, the POA monitors this site. No need to contact them. If there is something that they think will further their cause, they will take it up.

ah, so the answer is no.

When folks make a monetary issue out of something that is not a monetary issue then it is called government.

I remember this from Civics class and I passed that test...I am pretty sure..or was it a math class, or maybe economics? Maybe home economics, I wonder why they called it that...NO I KNOW now why they called it that. How much better and cheaper people lived when the mother was home with the kids...........or NOT........

We just love to debate here.

From Wikipedia ->
A community association is a nongovernmental association of participating members of a community, such as a neighborhood, village, condominium, cooperative, or group of homeowners or property owners in a delineated geographic area.

From a Moderator
The topic was a community association providing seat belts as a public safety program and whether that might be applicable in The Villages.

I think that the issue is that some things can be handled by simple individual decisions unless a person is unable to afford to install a seatbelt.

Then perhaps someone can pony up the $65 to help the folks who can't afford to have them installed...or the seatbelt contractor could do it for free out of goodwill...out of the kindness of their hearts.....

Or we could just abolish the use of golfcarts because they are too dangerous. After all 16 people have died in golf cart accidents in the years that I can remember here. However I will still drive my car and my golfcart and try to be mindful of the dangerous situations around me. I am going to get seatbelts in my cart. I use them in a car so it just makes sense.

I have never driven my golf cart drunk. I stopped driving entirely for a few months before cataract surgery because I knew my vision was hindered. Most people want to do the right thing, just because most of them are old-er and wise-er who live here.

Alright. Who would you like to do this? Isn't there a Rotary Club here? Maybe join a Garden Club and promote this idea in the public interest, or a golf group, or the model airplane group? Or start a group in your home for this purpose and have bake sales and encourage donations to offer low cost seat belts to the community.

Wasn't it the Rotary Club that was selling Luminaria at Christmastime?

Ah yes, here we are; Rotary Club of The Villages

You will find that almost every villager gives time, donates regularly to all kinds of public spirited and philanthropic groups. Most villages support the backpack programs for public schools and volunteer time at all sorts of places for the greater good. You will find a lot of people to help you do this. I will give a donation and will bake something.

As no doubt many of you I am old enough to remember driving for years before seat belts were installed in new cars. The first ones only went across a person's lap but were a start.

I personally have known a couple of men not wearing seat belts who died from head injuries resulting from golf cart incidents "on the street". One cart rolled; the other was T-boned by a car and the man thrown out by the impact. There is no way I will ride in or drive a golf cart without using a seat belt - other than on a golf course of course.

Sun City has some nasty golf cart accidents too.

You are correct. I have not contacted the POA.

1. I have seat belts in both of my carts and don't really care if the rest the people want them or not. If an organization wants to step up and help folks that makes it easy to obtain belts, that is great.

2. I am not a overall supporter of the POA. However I do applaud there efforts on golf cart safety. But I am not going out of my way to suggest this program to them. I would much rather watch my grass grow.

Those are pretty close to my sentiments.

Neither does poverty. I don't own a boat, never did.

I owned a Ranger bass boat once; decided it was a hole in the water you pour money into. Then I bought a couple of airplanes; found out they were bigger holes in the sky to pour money into. After the initial investment, golf carts are much less expensive, on what is now retirement funds, to own. Seat belts are a necessary, inexpensive investment.

Quoting your tagline..."I observe all things, I just don't give a damn about most"!
Sure does apply to all the suggestions of how to help the "poor" in The Villages.
