Villages
Charlotte, Mallory Square and Bonny Brook. All through the lanai sliders.

Sliders are the easiest way in only second to other unlocked doors.
Sliders can be lifted up and out of their tracks by those who know how to do it. I am sure the robbers would try them first because there is a 50-50 chance they are unlocked. When these things are reported it is always helpful to know more detail if available. Were the residents home/not home? Were the doors locked/unlocked? Did they have to "break" in? Damage? Time of day? |

The guy arrested a couple of weeks ago who broke in to someone's home, was running a carpet cleaning service out of his in-law's home in The Villages. When I hear of three break-in's I have to wonder who knows of folks who have stuff to steal, and also knows the lay of the land. We have some wonderful contractors here and we have some who are, or employ some bad apples. You can't be too careful who you let in your house.

Not sure what you mean
Can you give more info on this. I'm not sure what "steel hooked into place" means.

we have the pins....they go thru the steel centers where the door meet in the middle toward the top.
We also have the steel bar.....they hook on the side and drop down into a latch in the center of the door. when in place looks like a bar going across the center of the door...This one scares me because it just maybe could drop down and latch and lock me out, so we put in velcro on the side so that would never happen. now it has to be pulled away and wont fall down on accident. Never hurts to double up and the bad guys can see that you have some sort of security devise and maybe will move on. sorry neighbors.... |

What I find particularly troubling with these 3 incidents is that they occurred over a fairly broad area. This suggests that they probably are not the work of a single perpetrator.

You can purchase a 3/8 or 1/2" wood rod slide in the opening at the top of the doors then you cannot pick the door up and move it off its tracks and lay a rod or angle on the track at the floor. Not fool proof but a precaution may make them move on to a easier venue.
