No one on this thread mentioned the brutal summer temps and humidity. And I can't afford to be a snowbird. So I heard Villagers will hybernate in their homes from 11am to 6pm. While we in the Northeast may hibernate in the winter. But not bad. Thanks. MarvinH

I don't hybernate in the summer, you acclimate quickly and enjoy summers too. That why there is pools and shady walking areas. It gets hot up north and there is not as many places with A/C to recover and you can be miserable there as well...

Dam, can’t wait to get my a$$ to Florida, why would anyone in their right mind want to be up north given a choice?

Odd that you want to get your a$$ to Florida. Is that the part that finds the cold weather trying? Some people find their hands or feet are too cold in the winter. I have an equestrian friend who is eager to get her horse to Florida for the winter, but less concerned about her a$$.

The difference in hours of daylight, one layer of clothing, tons of outdoor activities is huge. I'm SO MUCH HAPPIER since spending winters in Florida.

Florida is, the stairway to heaven 🥴 Come to Florida and fish until you die or get lucky and make it back to Gods country in East Tennessee for the final tic😉

We are in the hills, so it’s typically colder and more windy here than the rest of the state because of the elevation. Where we live it’s very rural and a totally different place than Boston and the rest of the eastern part of the state, more like rural Vermont. It’s a beautiful area, but this time of the year I’ll take the Villages seven days a week and twice on Sundays. I concur with your advise, need to go south ASAP. Christmas can’t be over fast enough for my liking, the countdown is on!

Amen! Sitting in Belchertown as I respond- flying down to our home in TV on the 28th!

whereabouts are ye?

I grew up in Cincinnati, but spent my working years in what is called the Southern Tier of NY. Not way up north in the Adirondacks, but almost on the NY-Penn border, a bit west of due south of Syracuse. I was not prepared for how much longer and colder and grayer the winters are there than they were in Cincinnati.

I hated it. I don't hate it as much as I used to hate it, but that's is probably because it's a memory. Memories can be like that.

My advice? Get down here ASAP.

Sounds like you lived in Binghamton area. Spent much of my Air Force career in Binghamton. It was a nice town.

Marvin, I remember one summer in Esperance, NY the temperature outside was 103. I checked the weather in The Villages and it was 90. I couldn't wait to get home.

In the summer, the Sun sets at 9:30 pm in the North, with high temperatures in the mid 80's. At the same time of the year in Florida, the Sun sets at 8:30 pm and the high temperatures are in the mid to high 90's with humidity. Why would anyone want to be in Florida in the summer!

Significant difference in sunset times, but you didn't mention that your sunrise is the same time as Villages. You're significantly further east in the same time zone. I'm from Minnesota where the current sunrise is after 8am.

Just a couple more weeks and the days will start getting longer. Your summers are beautiful compared to the heat and humidity of the Villages.

If you can afford it, a home in both spots is the ideal - IMO.

We both retire in September and will be snowbirds for a few years. We bought our home in TV last March and have been going there whenever we can get the time off.
April thru September is great here in Southern Indiana but winters suck. Here we get up in the morning, look at the weather and see all the outdoor activities we can't do. In TV we get up and say "what do we want to do today?". Oh yeah, and when we leave for work it's dark and then it's almost dark at 6pm. Ughhh

Yes summers are a bit brutal there. So we get in our runs and mountain bike rides early. Then there's the pool or a day trip to Flagler beach. No need to veg out indoors.

We love going there this time of year. Thankfully we'll be there on 12-22 for 2 weeks. Can't wait.

So true, the biggest issue we have in the Villages is that our list of stuff we want to do every day is way bigger than the day is long. This time of year I am constantly searching for stuff to do up north. Today, Sunday, is the worst. YMCA is closed so no swimming or circuit training, no hunting in Massachusetts on Sundays, Patriots are playing Monday night, it’s snowing out at a good clip so the golf courses are closed, etc…. I have already split enough wood for the next three years and can only spend so much time on the elliptical trainer or exercise bike, what to do next??????? Erggg, yearning for the Villages. At least it looks like I will finally have an opportunity to fire up the tractor and do some plowing tonight, and it appears we will get in some cross country skiing and have a white Christmas before getting out of here.
