On the other hand, those lights make it so much easier for the cart driver to see. They also make it much easier for cars to see carts at intersections. Nearly all golf cart driving here happens during the daylight hours, so night drivers seldom face oncoming carts—most of the carts on the paths at night are heading home from the town squares. As for the strings of LED lights along the sides, they help so much with visibility that I’d recommend them to anyone buying a new cart as a safety feature.

I’ve complained for decades about SUVs and trucks with headlights that are a foot or more higher than car headlights and blind car drivers. It hasn’t led to a change.

Trucks jacked up are even worse.

The problem isn’t necessarily the lights, it’s that they aren’t correctly aligned. That being said, they are only necessary on older carts that don’t have the new technology LED headlights.

Not necessary on older Yamahas. I just had my old “lightening bug tails” replace with LEDs and now I can see and you can see me!

Sure would be nice if Golf Carts had highbeams. That would solve the problem, and it wouldn't be very expensive.

Some of them do. Unfortunately when I had mine replaced on my 2012 Yamaha, they weren’t an option.

My impression is people put these really bright lights on because they have poor eyesight at night. They do it so THEY can see. In the meantime they blind everyone else who can’t see where they are and easily hit them unintentionally. It’s a sign of not being able to consider all variables, cognitive decline, perhaps?

I couldn't agree more with the original post!

The other option is Motorcycle DOT approved driving lights. These are easy to install, and are easy to aim so that they do not blind on coming drivers. As a bonus they actually have 2 switchable settings, the WHITE LED I set for normal driving, while the YELLOW LED is then automatically for a lower angle. These are available through Amazon for around $30 for a pair, and ONE is sufficient of a golf cart.
Add a separately fused 12 VDC circuit and a 3 position switch (ON - OFF - ON) and you are good to go.

a week ago I saw a golf car here in The Villages, driving at night that had a light bar mounted above the top of the windshield. The light bar was on as were the carts normal headlights. It was like driving into the sun at night. Some folks are idiots.

I saw that idiot (or another one) driving on Mangrove last night at 9pm.
