They were buying soup because it is food that has a pretty long shelf life. They are trying to buy food that will last a long time for a food shortage with an unknown end date. The soup doesn't need refrigeration, but it probably needs to be cooked. But mainly, it's for the long shelf life, much longer than many other foods.

Can never have enough of that. We like to buy it in 5 gallon pails as to never have to worry about a shortage.

I would substitute the water for chicken stock, vegetable stock or beef stock.

So maybe the word used should have been "inconsiderate" - as it left many who also needed to stay in, without any, for a much longer time.

I'm not in TV now but my local Publix had no regular nonstick spray. I had to get the olive oil variety. I'll occasionally run into other items being out like ammonia and, as mentioned before, Clorox wipes and also bread making flour, as well as, yeast. Hand sanitizer and face masks seem to be in all of the stores now, though.

I bought 20 jars of peanut butter, and 10 assorted large jelly. The daycare on site just opened up, and had a list of staples they needed. So we all went shopping after 12 long hours, and not one person thought it was odd the quantity of what we were all buying.

But I am not in the land of retired right now.

Since this all started, we haven't been able to buy Lysol or our favorite cans of Campbell's Soup, anywhere! Sure, the stores might not have your first choice of items, but they'll have something comparable.
