Default Surveying markers on Buena Vista??

Does anyone know what is happening on the large tract of empty land on the right side of Buena Vista north of 466. The field was a paddock at one time. Now it is stacked out with survey orange flags all over the field. On the map it is listed as the Harold S Schwartz Wildlife Preserve. So why the stakes?????

They are getting ready to build a 5 story office building. I believe that it is already 40 percent rented out.

Beady,

I asked a similar question last Sept and didn't get any replies. After that, for some reason, I was led to believe this was a owl preserve and the stakes had to do with owls.

My old thread: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/sm...ic,2159.0.html

I think Greener might be talking about a building ON 466, near BV...not the area north of the polo fields ON BV you are referring to.

OK, someone who lives up there between Polo and Savannah Center....please tell us about the staked out field?

I believe they must have misunderstood where I was refering to.

07......You are right , now I remember references to the owls. Thanks for reminding me. I have never heard of staking for owls, but what do I know.

Owls perch on the stakes and watch for rodents to eat. I have never seen any so would guess since they are nocturnal birds that they are there at night. I read awhile back that I fox was trapped and removed from
there because it was eating the owls.

Believe you are talking about burrowing owls. My Dad had them on a vacant lot next to him in Fort Myers. He put up cross stakes for them to perch on. They dig holes in the ground and live in them. Very cool to watch them, but heartbreaking when hard rains came as many times the young would drown when the holes got washed out. My Dad used to put so many stakes out it looked like a cemetery! In Ft. Myers, people could not build on lots that had these owls living there.

Yes, they are ground owls. I never knew there was such a thing, until I moved to Boca Raton 28 years ago, and F.A.U. (Florida Atlantic University ) are the Owls, of the burrowing kind!! I always thought it a rather lame nick for a college, but at least I learned something!

Perhaps the red flags are to scare away the foxes. :dontknow:

Similar to those revolving owls (no relation to the ground owls, but ironic) people put on their boats to keep the sea gulls away????? : :

I believe the the flags on the stakes may be for the mowing crew. When I drove by there today I noticed a large tractor mower.

Now I cannot swear that this is absolutely true beyond question but I heard from a person who, while not being a reliable source himself, knows the hair dresser of the cousin of a reliable source. He said that The Developer was facing a loss in the tax relief they received for the owl preserve. Therefore, they are tearing out the owl habitat and will soon be building a large multipurpose facility. It is hoped that the new facility will be a popular destination for residents. Among the prospective tenants are a whore house, a museum of chiropracty, and the headquarters of the Sumter Co Democratic no, I won't go there a Starbucks Coffee Shop.

Actually you are mistaken Muncle. I myself heard from a more reliable source( my sister-in-laws podiatrist) that there was to be a training college for curmudgeons, a fencing field, a class for friends of Bill, and a marriage retreat house.
