If you travel, then Verizon has the best coverage. We found T Mobile to be spotty in areas.

We’ve used it for two years and it was good except some dead spots coming across 10 from Houston TX.

It was good in the villages area for sure about a year ago when they merged with a few other companies the dead spots disappeared and the service was as good as it gets.

I switched to xfinity got TB and Internet and they offered me a deal with unlimited calling but 3 GB of data per month for $30.00 per month for both phones.

Sometimes we exceed that data limit by 1 GB and the bill goes 2 $45.00 per month for both and that includes all taxes and fees.

So o switched from T-Mobile deal just to test it as it doesn’t require a contract so you can switch at anytime without penalty.

Kept our phones and numbers just changed the micro chips to those that they overnighted and followed simple instructions and we are in business.

I’m glad I switched service and coverage are great as they use Verizon towers and X finity has literally thousands of hot spots so you can remain on wi-fi most of the time regardless of where you are.

Another low cost, one flat rate fee service is Visible. I’ve been using the service for nearly 2 years. It’s a Verizon company. One unlimited line starts at $40 and two lines is $35. 3 lines is $30 and 4 lines is $25. This is on what they call their Party Pay . The down side is there are zero store fronts and any questions are answered via live chat or email.

There doesn't seem to be any good deals from any of the carriers if you only need a single line.

T-Mobile
 

We switched to T-Mobile last year. We now have 2 lines with everything unlimited plus Mexico, Canada, for less than 1 line was at Verizon. Very Happy with the service, always adding TV links for free as well. Sorry we didn't switch sooner, we lost thousands for service less than we now have.

T-Mobile actually has more coverage than anybody right now, including Verizon. We've been on their 55+ plan for the past 4 years and have had no issues. The cost for the plan is $70 for two lines, and you get a $10 discount with autopay, so it's $60 + about $3 in taxes. My monthly bill is $63.01. They will also give you a free cell spot to use in your home if you want, but with today's phones supporting wifi calling, you probably don't need it. We have one (because it's free!), and have never had a dropped call at home.

I have found spots where my phone works and a friends phone on Verizon doesn't... and vice versa. This will be true with any network. Look at the coverage maps for Verizon and T-Mobile on their sites.

If you use Mint Mobile plans start at $15 a month and the maximum is $35 depending on data use. You must own an unlocked phone.

I have had Tracfone service for a number of years and very happy with their service. I currently pay $20 a month for unlimited talk & text with 1 gb of rollover data.

I would expect with the changeover to 5G many things will change. Including cost and coverage.

I was a long term user of At&T and was reluctant to change carriers. ATT prices started to get very high...so i made the change in NJ to T Mobile.....excellence service and coverage...traveled to Brazil...and had coverage....The Senior plan was $55.00 per month...all in.....and if you signed up for auto pay it dropped to $50. I moved here to The Villages 1 year ago...and had excellent coverage here as well.

Currently I've got Verizon.

Previously, had Consumer Cellular. I discovered something when I moved from a previous home. I couldn't get calls from my Consumer Cellular service. I investigated the issue and this was the explanation. CC rents space on AT&T towers. When traffic on a tower gets high, AT&T will throttle the CC service down first. Essentially, CC has access to 80% of the AT&T tower capacity. AT&T gives priority to their full AT&T customers and these full customers get 100% access to the tower. While normally not a big deal and everything seems to work fine, that 20% loss of access by using Consumer Cellular could become important in an emergency situation. CC and many of these other off-brand companies have the same reduction in access model. Something to know.

I solved my problem by going to Verizon and getting their over 55 service. I get full service and full access to their capabilities. I've never tried T-mobile. But, a lot of people are very satisfied with their service.

We use Consumer Cellular much less expensive, and you get a discount if you are an AARP member. They use both the ATT network and T-Moble.

Mint Mobile doesn’t include wearables.

We had Sprint a few years ago when we were traveling full time. Went six weeks with no cell service. Had to stop and use WiFi where we could find it. Useless. Switched to Verizon and had coverage again.

Consumer Cellular uses ATT and T-Mobile. For ATT it's less than $50/mo for the best service (total for 2 phones). Unsure what the cost is for T-Mobile, but likely the same.

I have had T Mobile for 4 years now, got a range extender from them for free, always 4 or 5 bars now. Have driven cross country several times, no issues. Travel the world and have free internet and low cost calling, 10 cents a minute in over 280 countries all at 2 lines unlimited everything for 60.00 per month. Great service.

Many thanks to all you knowledgable Villagers. I'm embarassed to say that I didn't know about the Verizon over-55 plan, never heard of a range extender nor those other third party systems. I'm grateful for the help.

We switched from Verizon to Consumer Cellular and now pay about $50/mo (including fees and taxes) as opposed to $129/mo. 3GB of data very good coverage. Also, their customer service is A+.

We’ve been on T-Mobile 55+ plan for about 4 years. Good service in the villages and good when we traveled. Ours is $35 per line, 2 lines for $70/month. What I like best about it is no other fees and taxes added to the quote amount. It is what it is. Also, T-Mobile Tuesday app gives a lot of free and discounted stuff including 10 cents off a gallon of gas up to 20 gallons at Shell each week.

ummm one of us is OFF.... i have Xfinity internet, with mobile... it $13.77 per month , 1 gb . but its not unlimited talk and text. If your using it IN your home Off your own Internet, it doesn't draw off your 1 gb. If your at a HOT spot and hook in It doesn't draw off your 1 gb. But if need to USE your Mobil Internet because there is NO internet available... then it draws off your 1 gb. If you want Unlimited talk and text, its $50 more a month. or pay by the gb depends how much you use it.

Also, if you are a T-Mobile customer, you get $10/month off of YouTube TV for as long as you are with T-Mobile. This brings YouTube TV down to $55/month. You can also get a discount on Philo (1/2 off), bringing Philo down to $12.50/month. Philo carries several channels that are not on YouTube TV that my wife watches (GSN, Hallmark, etc).

another good review for T Mobile. Have used it for about 5 years and grandfathered in at $60 per month. That includes tax, etc. and includes 2 lines with unlimited data.

I connect the phone through our internet when at home. Coverage is OK but probably not as good as Verizon but plenty good enough for me. Free to usewith no roaming in many countries.

I have t-mobile and pay $90 a month for two lines. We are happy with it. The G5 coverage is good, when there is no WiFi available.

The plan you mention sounds good and I'd like to switch but at least one of my phones (Galaxy G7s) is locked to the T-Mobile network, maybe both. One I bought for full price from T-Mobile and paid it off in a year, the other( wife's) I bought used on Amazon for a good price, but it said right on there that it was locked to T-Mobile.

We have had T-Mobil 55+ for 2 + years and couldn't be happier! Great service, no dead spots, and Netflix is not a "Gottcha". T-Mobil renews your Netflix subscription each year!

I agree with another responder that X-Finity Mobile is the cheapest plan available for anyone using less than 2 gigs shared data. Plan uses Verizon's network. My wife and I share 1 gig and our bill is less than $15 a month with taxes. You need to be an X-Finity internet subscriber to qualify.

We’ve had T-Mobile 55 plan for years….it’s a great plan with great service. We moved to The Villages In May and have terrific service all over here!

Switched from Verizon after 30 yrs to T-Mobile shortly b4 moving here 4 yrs ago. Can’t beat the price. Service was kind of sketchy down here in certain areas. Over the yrs the service has improved. $60 a month unlimited text/data.

My husband & I have been on the T-Mobile 55+ service plan for years. Overall, it has worked well for us. We live south of 44 & have not had issues with it. When we lived north of 44, T-Mobile gave us a booster to use for free in the house as we sometimes had trouble with reception inside the house (some houses & buildings have a foil-type wrap for insulation that interferes with signals). We travel throughout the US & sometimes do not have as good of reception in remote areas as AT&T does. It has gotten better over the years. We have not recently traveled outside of the US & have no experience with that.

They might not be on the 55+ plan. Tmobile has Magenta and Magenta Premium plans which are more expensive. Could be one of those.
