We may end up being your neighbors as we are considering a lot on Grenadier Way (a couple streets south from Barret). Should be making our decision tomorrow. Earlier this week, we thought we were going to the new village of Sanibel, but now are looking at TG. We are scheduled to close on our house (here) on Thursday, and if all goes well will probably start building July or August.

Welcome to TOTV! Best wishes on your house closing and on your choice of homes in TV. The good news here is, there is not bad choice!

Almost there

Thanks for all your good wishes. We signed our contract today and plan to be in a rental from July-August. Can't wait to get to TV and start building.:a040:

That will be really awesome to have someone on TOTV that will be building close to us. For a long time (really not that long, but being anxious makes it seem like a long time)I didn't see anyone who had lots close to Barret, but most were nearer the pool. We go down July 23 to get the process started and hope to move mid October-November. We plan to list our house here mid July and are hoping for a quick sell (aren't we all?) Anyhow, welcome, welcome, welcome!!!

Not to stir up anything at all but I have a question about the train nearby Tamarind Grove.

Has anyone heard the noise form the trains? I worry about how close they are to the houses and how much noise there is.

I only ask because when I visited this last weekend, one of the current residents pointed that out to me.

Can you hear it from St. James? I have a friend who has a hold on a lot there.

champion6 05-19-2011 08:35 PM

The tracks are one mile from the western-most point of Tamarind Grove. So for most residents of TG, they are more than a mile away. I doubt anyone will even notice the trains.

nkrifats 05-19-2011 08:39 PM

I am in Liberty Park and can hear the trains. Not enough to bother one but can hear them.

Russ_Boston 05-20-2011 05:36 AM

I've heard them even as far east as Canal. Obviously my house in Buttonwood is much closer than that so, yes, in Buttonwood you can hear them. But not so much that they become a problem (i.e. they don't wake you up at night or anything like that).

Tom Hannon 05-20-2011 06:12 AM

I agree with Russ. We live a nine iron away from each other and yes, I can hear the freight trains but it is not louder than the noise crickets make. Some people find it relaxing. I find the sound of the pickel ball courts (live two blocks away from the rec center) more annoying.

Trains

Hell I live in Bonita Canal & Odell and I hear the trains when I'm in the Canal. No big deal at all. They aren't really that loud. Besides it's better then cars drag racing, kids screaming, cars crashing etc.Even the cops and fire trucks are quieter.I don't think they're really that much of a nuisance. You'' be to busy enjoying yourself to worry about a train.

It is a heck of a lot quieter than the blarring music from the ice cream trucks I used to hear on Long Island.

linandvin 05-20-2011 06:54 AM

Tom-hahaha...then what are you holding there in your hands??? Mr. Softee or Good Humor???

Two pina colada's, twofers at Cody's. For an Irishman who doesn't drink it was more than a mouthful.

Mark1130 05-20-2011 07:38 AM

I was looking at a CYV in Tamarind Grove and was scared off a little when I was told about the trains. I love the area; out of the way from it all but I don't want to be woken up at night either.

I lived near the L trains in Chicago and know how loud that can be.

villages07 05-20-2011 07:45 AM

I played Tarpon Boil yesterday which skirts the western edge of the Villages in Buttonwood and Tamarind area. Heard two trains softly in the distance. I think the trains are louder at Churchill (Belvedere area).

Best suggestion is to come and hear for yourself. Get a good book and plant yourself out in that area and listen for the trains.

champion6 05-20-2011 07:55 AM

I think the reality is that how loud the trains sound will depend on the weather - which way is the wind blowing and how high is the humidity.

I formerly lived 0.3 mile from an interstate, separated by the rest of the homes in my subdivision. Of course, the motorcycles and semis were the loudest vehicles. If we were downwind from the interstate and the humidity was high, they sounded like they were in our back yard! If were we upwind, they weren't even noticeable.

The same was true for a railroad track that was 0.6 mile away.

As everyone has said... ain't no big deal.

Debbie and I closed on our CYV last week. We stayed there for 5 days before coming back to the Chicago area. If I hadn't of read this post, I wouldn't have realized there were any trains in the area.

Buttonwood

Personally I love the sounds of trains. It doesn't matter to us we don't have to fight the cold , snowy gloomy weather. anymore. I just want to get there and start living the life. Life can't get any better than in TV. I am usually a very happy person and always looks on the bright side of things .

Hey Tom my hubby wants to know what you are holding in your hands

To Ocean Girl- If you look at my previous post it would say "Two pina colada's, twofers at Cody's. For an Irishman who doesn't drink it was more than a mouthful."

We left for our northern home in early May and there were many beautiful homes (probably at least 20+ more in Tamarind Grove. I know that Ansley Ter. has been in the home listings and from the map, it looks like you are not far from there. As we did our golf cart tours there were many homes in that area which had very few when we were there in Nov. IMO Tamarind Grove has one of the most beautiful village pool locations.- I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

dwbevan 05-20-2011 08:24 PM

We also live in Buttonwood on the edge, Harding Path. As I sit here in the Berkshires listening to the crickets, I must agree, the train was no louder. We also have a couple of roosters that crow all day at different times in TV, but we are so busy and happy it is just part of what makes TV so special. D

I've been here a little less than a week (Odessa Circle). I've heard trains in the distance (but only when I'm outside), but not enough to be annoying. I suspect that after awhile you'd block out the sound anyway - sort of like the chimes on a clock that seem so loud at first and then you don't even notice them.

Social Groups

We have a friend moving into new CYV there soon. Have they organized any social/golf/pickel ball etc type groups yet in Tamarind Grove? thanks

John_W 06-02-2011 03:30 PM

We're leaving Baltimore the end of June for Tamarind Grove. We close on our CYV on July 5th on Nautilus Lane in Southern Star Villas. I have a golfing friend from Baltimore that moved to TV last August and they have a designer home on Harding Path at the intersection of Nobelton Lane.

We are so jealous about your move, but excited for you at the same time. Our day will come and we will be on your heels. It just seems as if we have so much to do, but I guess everything will come together.

Have a safe trip and we'll see you at the pool!!

Hello Iowa Hawkeye ~ My husband and I just closed June 1st on our Southern Star CYV! We purchased it as a 2nd home to spend time during our northern California winters (cold & rainy). But then we got so excited about making a lifestyle change, that we decided to sell our home in CA and move permanently to TV! Hopefully, we will be arriving in September 2011. SO EXCITED! Somehow, we will have to meet....

My husband and I just closed last week on our courtyard villa in Tamarind Grove. We are very excited and plan to be there the end of June for a week or so to get moved in. You will have neighbors I am sure. When do you expect your home to be finished?

Connie Cockcroft 06-04-2011 04:20 PM

We will definitely be neighbors

We will be down July 23 to begin the selection process. We hadn't planned to move until next year, but why wait? Don't want to miss all the fun! Right now we are in the process of listing our house. It seems as if we have so much to do to get it ready, but my husband reminded me that we're not as young as when we were when we move the last time. Looking forward to all of the fun times ahead. Hopefully, we'll be moving there mid October:smiley:

Neighbors in Tamarind Grove

Hi neighbors. We will be closing on our Hammock Cottage on Ansley Path the 24th of this month. Its the Big Hammock cottage up by the pool. Have been watching and waiting for our update photos from the builder every Monday. Wow do they ever build fast!!!! We will probably be moving down around the end of August or maybe early Sept. It all depends on selling our home here on Long Island. Our close friends are closing Monday on a home down on Odessa. So yeah there are live bodies moving to Tamarind Grove. See ya soon. Karan and Rich
