A smart tax advisor would tell you how to not pay tax on the RMD and still control the money

If your tax return is a half inch thick or more you need a CPA.

My wife would not be happy. . .

4. Marry someone younger

Oddly, the age of your spouse can affect the amount of required minimum distributions you are mandated to take. The IRS allows you to use different life expectancy tables depending on your unique situation. The amount of your RMD is based on the balance of your accounts at the end of the previous year and a life expectancy factor based on the ages of you and your spouse.

If you are unmarried, have a spouse who is fewer than 10 years younger than you, or your spouse isn't the sole beneficiary of your IRA, you'll use the Uniform Lifetime Table. But if your spouse is more than 10 years younger and is the sole beneficiary of your IRA, you'll use the Joint Life and Last Survivor Expectancy Table.

The Joint Life and Last Survivor Expectancy Table allows you to withdraw a smaller amount of your account balance each year. And because you're taking out less money, you won't owe as much in taxes.

H&R is expensive, I would just go to a CPA better service for the same price

You need good tax advice. Don't underestimate H&R Block, they do a lot of complex returns.

AARP does taxes at no cost to you. Go online, find the nearest site and make an appointment.

Doesn’t AARP’s do it anymore? They always did them for FREE & they did a great job for us!

Yes, they do, but as pointed out above, they don't do returns that are complicated.

Highly recommend Ellen Cronin, CPA, 352-350-1951. She’s excellent

You should review last years return. If nothing has changed you should be able to replicate in tax software.

Really, when they did ours, every yr. they seem like they would have to get help in doing ours. Thanks for pointing that out.

tax preparation

Need to find someone to do tax preparation.
We have rental properties, have a 1031 like property exchange,
insurance business and a retired tax professional business.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

The program walks you through everything. I highly recommend it. It is WAY cheaper too.

Which Turbo Tax software package did you use? We also have rental properties and have a 1031 like property exchange. Would appreciate your feedback.
Thanks

TurboTax offers a package with live help or an expert to do it. Much depends upon complexity of the return and what you are willing to pay

Wife and I still have most of our retirement investments up north using their tax service.
It works find but they're not cheap and I still send registered mail all the material which I copy before sending which is costly.

Getting all our Reg, IRA transferred to a Roth, so until that's completed, out tax return should be simpler.
