Same here. Big bill. I think they just put the increase in for 2021.

We got our highest electric bill ever in 7 years of $279

I agree with the current trajectory of the natural gas management prices will increase. VRNT

Gas was 35.00 last month 25...gas furnace, hot water and dryer...electric runs 60-90 so nothing unusual for the temperature drops..

Yeah, we put in one of those exterior on-demand water heaters through the TECO program and expected to see a reduction in our bill. We were shocked to see our bill doubled from around $30 to over $60! It was our highest bill ever. Checked with our neighbor and theirs did exactly the same thing. Called TECO and they said it was colder this year and everyone's bill went up. It had nothing to do with the water heater apparently. Really surprised.

I did have similar high bills in past years when we had a lot of cold. I asked neighbors and a friend...all showed a significant increase.

I did check my meter and the numbers checked out close enough to the bill, so, not a reading error.

I keep indoor heat at 74 degrees; 2,000 sq ft house.

You may want to contact your gas company about having a home energy audit done.
It is likely free. Assuming your thermostat is correct and it is 74 degrees that seems quite warm. I'm sure you can find a chart as to percentage you would save for each degree you turn the heat down.

Once you have the results of an energy audit, you can decide what is justified doing.
Insulation? Calking? Windows? Door? New heater? etc etc.

We had an energy audit done and it was pretty useless. Back in Massachusetts they had programs that gave us free infrared scanning, LED bulbs throughout the entire house (and we had a lot of recessed cans), free attic sealing and blow-in insulation, free programable thermostats, etc.

Down here they don't really do anything.

Mine was the highest in 18 years. I figured it was because I was home a lot more, temps were down and I had heat on during most of day when previously I would just have it on a couple of hours to take chill out. Glad to see it's not just my bill that went up. We'll see next month.
