I would guess there are a lot of people trying to get on Yankee Clipper since it is now playing as an 18 hole course.More competition = less chance of playing.

gemorc 01-28-2010 08:59 PM

It is common knowledge among employees of GMS, the Golf Management System, that the demand for tee times far exceed the available course openings. And more important, it is not expected to get any better, any time soon.

only applies to Championship courses.

Then why are there over 50 tee times open for Saturday & Sunday this week.Out of curiosity I put in for a foursome on these days and I got over 50 open tee times left for these days. It's just that people are being picky about where they play:cryin2:

Bosoxfan, you are right on target.

I would agree that your statement is correct to some degree. But then please tell me how the following fits.

My group put in a request for Tuesday. Our average exec points was 1.8 and we had a five hour window (preferred time right in the middle) with 20 courses selected. We got course #18 with a tee time 15 minutes before our latest time.
Last week the same group had an average of 3 exec points with the same selection criteria and got shut out on Wed and Thurs.

Are we being to picky?

OutsiderWithInterest 01-30-2010 11:43 AM

Several things could have happened.

A similar request or requests to yours had points less than 1.8.
A similar request or requests to yours had priority golfers. You did not specify your priority status.
A similar request or requests to yours had two golfers rather than four.

The wording of your post makes me think: You do know that the fewer points you have the better your chances are to get a tee time right? I say that because of your "3 exec points" comment.

It's tough I know. In the winter months there are fewer holes available than people attempting to hit a ball into one.

Priority only applies for the championship courses and has no bearing on the executives.

No guests? Your group is 4? I must say, I have never had that happen to me with no guests.... yet anyway ;). Another thought, Tuesday is Mens day, could your selections have been competing with that?

Just curious is all, as I do not on the surface think your request is too picky.

On another thread you stated you were thinking of moving into Bison Valley. Assuming you are not a resident of TV, how do you know so much about the tee time point system?

We usually vary our days each week as schedules permit. But we try to play exec's three or four times per week, which drives up our play points. Last winter was the same issue where one week we would have trouble getting all of our days while the next week we did get all of our requests.

Bottom line is that IMHO yes there are some people being picky and then complaining about it but the other side of the coin is there just are not enough holes of exec golf to satisfy the demand during the first three or four months of the year. And since the four of us are all year round residents it is not a big deal to us cause we will certainly make up for it in the off months.

Obviously I don't know that much since I have been properly corrected!

I know what I know only because I have played a few times on a couple of championship courses (as a guest of course). My friends have clued me in a number of times about how the points work. It is an interesting way to balance supply and demand, but it looks like you have to play a lot before you get the hang of how it works. I have a copy of the book too.

That is interesting data. It sounds like 4 times a week is right on some limit during the Jan-Mar to get a tee time between 9 AM and 3 PM. This explains a couple of things to me:
  1. Why a group with a guest will likely not get a tee time, as they go behind ANY group of residents no matter the play points.
  2. Why I always get a time on the executives, as the most I play is twice a week.

Anyone else find 4 times a week to be a threshhold in the busy months to play between 9 AM and 3 PM?

I have a friend who plays everyday on the exec's. He many times does not get a tee time thru the request system, so he just goes in and picks an open tee time.
