Default Termite Portection

Without debating whether termite treatment / protection is necessary, after the decision is made to buy the protection, do you believe chemicals in the ground or a baiting system like Sentricon is the better way to go?

Thanks for any perspective you share.

We did our first 10 years with the basic chemical in the ground and annual checks by Massey - in essence we just continued the program the original owners had done and reset for a new 10-year clock. This year we just renewed but changed to the Centricon system. Seems like the bait system will be easier to see if the little buggers are mounting an attack near to us when the bait traps are checked annually. The chemical in the ground doesn't have that - you have to just hope someone notices a mud column growing up to and under the vinyl siding. Not sure really which one might be better but I like the idea of the bait stations set up around the perimeter.

Now we can hear from the other side and see if someone can tell me I made a(nother) mistake. lol

I think the chemical method is the better way to go. It creates a barrier around your house that keeps termites from getting in. The bait system just identifies where the termites are and then you need to spot treat that area. The bait system is more environment friendly, but I just want to kill them. The chemical system is also less expensive and more effective.

Massey uses Scare tactic selling, let’s ask the Question how many home owners have had an issues with termites?
All those Massey trucks in such a small area? Someone is making a killing.

60,000 homes, $100 year for insurance, $6,000,000 split mostly between Massey, Deans, and Fertigator.

I have heard that no home in TV has ever had termites. I heard that when TV first bought all the land we are on now that they sprayed so much with stuff you cannot even use now, that nothing survived. Termites are a problem in Florida, so they could creep back.
I have lived in Florida for 40 years, both south and central Florida, spray my own homes, never had termites and never had a problem selling a home because I did not have a termite bond. All homes are usually tested for termites when sold and taken care of if there is a problem. I agree that Massey has the best salespeople in Florida, don't know about treatment.

Not true gatorbill I have seen homes in the historical area with termite damage that was being repaired. The damage was in the eves and roof rafters.
