Termite Insurance
I had a friend who bought a life insurance policy. Kept it for 2.0 years. Never died. Dropped the policy due to the fear mongering aspect.

Then we'd all save money.

If nothing else, it's expected when you go to sell your house. Keeping up a current treatment plan is much less expensive than starting a new plan. Think of it as insurance. You'll never need it until you do.

This is my way of thinking also.
I have Dean's termite policy that comes with insurance if we get termites, and not that much $$$$ per year. Another thing about termites most people overlook regardless of what that map shows, TERMITES ARE EVERY WHERE. Also, check your mulch around your foundation. We have those yahoos spread mulch over the years and it builds up 8 to 14 inches Reak that mulch away so termites can't seek the moister that mulch holds. |

We don’t have coverage because I don’t think we are in an area in The Historic Section where it ever happened to anybody else. Our bug treatment company inspected the entire house for us and said there is no evidence of damage. I feel like such a Rebel. I’m not cheap at all just trying to be wise. I did buy flood insurance after what I witnessed after Irma. Good Luck with your decision. |

Or spend it on repairs since there would be a great spot for termites to move in!

Termidor.
Twice a year. Spray 18" up the wall and 18" out on the ground. |

Yes, and when you go to sell yours, presenting the perspective buyer with a valid termite warranty may alleviate that fear (which is good for the seller).

You DON'T Need a Pest Control Service Contract
Quote:
If I was to require professional help, it would only be for the specific problem. I truly believe that at some point, The Villages will be a contaminated area because of all the indiscriminate spraying. Please keep in mind that these chemicals do not dissipate. They will be in your house and ground for a long time and even forever. Think about it: how healthy is that??!? All the spraying and contracts for pest control is totally unnecessary unless you have a genuine problem and even then you still don't need monthly service! If you have concerns or need peace of mind, have a periodic termite inspection. But I will tell you that at some point -- yes. At some point, every home in Florida will show signs of some type of termite. However, most of us here will never live to see it.

Dry wood termites in California and Hawaii for example are very real and get in the eaves and attic. Not sure how it is in Florida. Ground termites are a little easier to detect. You will find little mudpiles up walls like those old fourescent sand sculpture kits we had as a kid in the 60s. But then they can also be "inside" the walls. So it would be nice to know what damage has been cause by either type here and also entry points for both types.

There are 3 homes in my neighborhood that I KNOW have had an issue with termites. Treating and having the accompanying insurance seems like a no-brainer to me.
