Yes, and when you go to sell yours, presenting the perspective buyer with a valid termite warranty may alleviate that fear (which is good for the seller).

You DON'T Need a Pest Control Service Contract

If I was to require professional help, it would only be for the specific problem. I truly believe that at some point, The Villages will be a contaminated area because of all the indiscriminate spraying. Please keep in mind that these chemicals do not dissipate. They will be in your house and ground for a long time and even forever. Think about it: how healthy is that??!? All the spraying and contracts for pest control is totally unnecessary unless you have a genuine problem and even then you still don't need monthly service! If you have concerns or need peace of mind, have a periodic termite inspection. But I will tell you that at some point -- yes. At some point, every home in Florida will show signs of some type of termite. However, most of us here will never live to see it. |
Dry wood termites in California and Hawaii for example are very real and get in the eaves and attic. Not sure how it is in Florida. Ground termites are a little easier to detect. You will find little mudpiles up walls like those old fourescent sand sculpture kits we had as a kid in the 60s. But then they can also be "inside" the walls. So it would be nice to know what damage has been cause by either type here and also entry points for both types.

There are 3 homes in my neighborhood that I KNOW have had an issue with termites. Treating and having the accompanying insurance seems like a no-brainer to me.
