Difference from me to you is I get paid not to sleep…….Working at 2am brings out the most interesting people. But you win, I am on all-nighter, beer is not on my approved list for the next 7 days. We do have a gift basket of imported cheese, fruit and chocolate. But an emergency is about to change the possibility of eating :ohdear:. I am however using voice to text for my response.

were in Gods name do you get your information, there are a lot of bike accidents in the villages, but you don't hear about it because it is not allowed by the powers to be!

And you know this how , the bicycle community is very large here and accidents get around the population very quickly if they happen, I was wondering when someone would get around to another conspiracy about the all knowing , all powerful family which controls all our actions in the. Villages , I’m going out on my bike now from brownwood to lake Sumter on the street lol

I’m just curious how you know there are so many bike accidents since hearing about them “is not allowed by the powers to be”.

The accidents get around through the bike communities, and this is why a lot of biker's now wear Go Pros.
Does that answer your question!

Anyone that has lived here for awhile understands the powers to be controls the papers and everything else around here and they don't let any negativity out about anything bad, so people keep drinking the cool-aid.

Bicyclists can legally ride on Buena Vista. Like it or not, believe it is a good idea or not, think that you would do it or not, bicyclists can legally ride on Buena Vista. If I was out for anything other than a casual ride I would use the roads to avoid golf carts, turns, and multiple stops. Bicyclists should be able to do this without the fear that an inattentive driver will run into them.

A person should be able to walk on any street in any city in the U.S. without the fear of being mugged, raped or beaten to death, but in the real world that ain't happening. Just like it ain't gonna happen that a bicyclist will be safe riding on the road with motor vehicles.

What is “safe?” Is safe driving a car on I 75 with 80,000 pound trucks? Is safe gaining weight every year and never exercising? Is safe having a heart attack or a stroke because you don’t care for yourself as well as you do your dog? Close to a million people die a year from overeating and lack of exercise. These are the real killers. These are the real risky things people do everyday. It’s just not that noticeable. These people sit back, enjoy overeating, over drinking, and never exercising and they never wake up to the fact that they are slowly killing themselves. It’s time to accept the fact that many Villagers want to live a healthier lifestyle. You see them everyday. They are out riding their bicycles, jogging, walking, playing pickle ball, swimming, etc. This is a retirement community. Slow down when driving a car or golf cart. Yes, bicyclists, walkers, and joggers slow you down. Isn’t that good? Isn’t that why you retired? Courtesy all around would be nice this Holiday season and into the New Year. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

“Anyone…”? LOL!

So you really believe most people who live here have the same negative attitude that you do?!?

Dream on.

Makes one wonder why people live here with the negative attitudes and fabricated bias they express.

I don't know why you are lecturing me. I never said anything negative about bicyclists. I occasionally ride a bicycle and understand the problems. My statement was to the poster who said it should be safe for cyclists on the road. Yes, it should be safe for them but reality is there are aggressive and unobservant drivers and there isn't anything anyone can do about it. Ride defensively paying attention to your surroundings.

Sorry if you thought I was lecturing you. I just replied to your post because it concerned your thought that it wasn’t safe for bicyclists to be on the roads with cars. I was just looking to reply to that concept and I picked your post at random. I should have just posted without a reply quote. I must say, though, that I feel safe riding out there. Like you say though, I do ride defensively and I try to be very aware of my surroundings. I have been riding on the roads since I was ten years old. My father used to ride his bike on the roads in the 1920’s. Many cyclists here in The Villages have also been riding for years and have ridden thousands of miles on roads throughout the United States and all over the world. We know we have to careful out there and that a collision with a car would be bad, but you must understand we love to ride. We can’t wait to get back on our bikes each day. It invigorates us and keeps us healthy. The Villages has been named one of the best bike places in America and I agree it is a wonderful area in which to ride.

We don't (shouldn't) give our streets over to the criminals, we arrest and prosecute them and if necessary take them off the streets - do enough of that and the problem goes away. We shouldn't just accept that the streets are unsafe for bicyclists due to inattentive drivers, we should ticket them fine them and if necessary take away their driving privileges.

The world ain't perfect but shrugging our shoulders at the problems will only make it worse.
