Default Common sense is the greatest of eqaulizers.

There will ALWAYS be a certain percentage of those who are on the lookout for easy prey to make a buck.

They are not stealing the club(s) to play golf...they are to sell to get cash to buy _ _ _ _ _ _ (fill in the blank).

My friend's clubs were stolen a few weeks back, while parked in the side lot (carts only) at Cane Garden. The thief apparently wasn't very golf savvy: the clubs he took were cheapos, while there were two sets of Adams in the adjacent cart.
We've had to resort to the lockable canvas cover available at many of the pro shops -- including Cane Garden. Padlock not included.
I resent that we have to do that, but such is life.

If I had a new R11 I'd put it in an old headcover! $399 now on e-bay for $250!! Let's be careful out there.

Default The Good News

An article appearing in Golf Digest wanted to test golfers honesty. so they left 25 PW around various golf courses. Of the 25, 21 were returned to the clubhouse. I am gald I read this hread because I thought with the capture of those two brothers that the problem was solved. I guees I will have to invest in one of those golf bag covers that locked onto the cart. does any know where to purchase them?

PW vs. new Driver = big difference!

I know that someone on this thread had mentioned various locking devices. Try the search above if no one responds here.

Leaving a $400 driver sitting anywhere is just being careless.

Be very careful when buying clubs on e-bay. Taylor Made has set the lowest price possible at $399.99. All reputable golf dealers cannot sell at a lower price.

You can purchase at any Pro Shop in The Villages. Cost $49.99 minus 10% off with your ID, and sometimes an additional 10% using a coupon from the magazine in the Pro Shop. Ask the sales person about the discounts, some are more helpful than others. cheap lock from Ace or WalMart. Gives a little more peace of mind, and as with all locks, "keeps an honest person honest".

Couple of years ago my entire bag was taken from our golf cart in front of Mallory. They caught the person at a later time who had stolen my clubs and 17 other sets from within TV. The story the detectoive told me was the kid had grandparents here (how proud) and he would sneak onto the golf courses. When the ambassadors would kick him off, he would grab a club or set on his way out. He would take them from the back or front lots.

When he fessed up they found some of my clubs in Fort Myer sport shop. First thing I learned was in Florida you have to buy back your stolen clubs from the pawn shop for the cost the pawn shop paid for them.

My story ended happily because part of his sentence of probation he had to pay me the replacement cost of my clubs. This was quite a shock to me as number one I never expected to find the clubs and number 2, I certainly never expected to get money to replace all missing ones with new ones.

Since then, I never leave clubs unlocked. My wife made me a protector from some old canvas bags (below). That with a 6' cable to tie down the rain protector should make the go to the next cart. My wife has one of the club protector covers the country clubs sell for $50, but since mine is a DIY I think it is much better.

When I leave my golf clubs on my golf car (when stoping for an adult beverage and/ or lunch), I enclose the clubs with the rain cover that comes with the bag. I then take a cable (one used for bicycles) and wrap it around the bag(s) and the back brace for the bags, then lower the rain sunbrella cover and loop the cable through the metal bar then lock it with the lock prominately displayed. If there were those interested in taking clubs, I think they will look for easier pickings.

We have a cart with an alarm system much like a car. My husband rigged up cable wire which goes in and around the two golf bags with a padlock on the end. We had heard about all the thefts of golf clubs in the past.

Semi off topic. What's a "PW?"
