The golf cart path fee is so far less than anywhere I have ever seen and is most likely used for the maintenance of the courses and the courses are very much used. Because of the excellent scheduling the courses are probably more used than anywhere I have ever been.

Wow a little harsh doncha think! I don't think liking all the rules and procedures is a prerequisite for living or loving TV. If it were there would be a whole lot more homes on the market. I am also quite sure that the OP realizes he/she is free to leave. With that out of the way, I am very fond of the automated tee time system.

I would think these fees are to help, offset the costs of taking care of the courses in general, like when they need to rake traps, (because some players refuse to do so) fix mushy tire tracks, (because someone has driven in wet areas, and has made a mess of the course), fix ball marks on greens, (so everyone can enjoy) fill in divots on tee box, (again, because a few refuse to do so) etc etc etc. Village residents are able to purchase an annual Trail fee for $141.24 (up to four in a household) or $105.93 for six months. So if you play 100 times a year, on executive courses, your trail fee would only be $1.41 per play. (that's really cheap in trail fee standards) I don't think there is another place in this country, where you can play nine holes of golf, for that cheap of a price. Another reason why, "It's a beautiful day in The Villages" You gotta love it here

You are not required to use villages.net for a tee time. Use the free phone system if you want. It is your choice!

Personally, I will will be moving up there shortly and one of the first things I do will be to sign up for this service.

Don't like waiting either in person or on the phone.

I think the point of the original post is why not just say that it costs $8 a month to book a tee-time online and you must use the service instead of trying to make it look like you are paying for an ISP?

I think their application for service is quite clear. You can opt for tee-time service, or dial-up Internet service, or both. I don't see where it implies you are getting Internet service for the $8. :shrug:

Have you used the phone system? A real pain. Plus with the on-line system you get an email with the course and T time. You can also store any ID numbers of friends you golf with so you don't have to remember them or have a written list. I think it is a good use of $8.

Do I like paying $96 a year for what was free up north, no. However, once you start to use the system, it is very simple. This time of year with the lower green fees, about $20 after 11am, and with weather forecasts constantly changing we never put in a request. My neighbor and I played Glenview on Monday and today were playing Lopez. We just go online a day or two ahead of time and pick out the 18 that we want to play and find a good teetime. In the winter when their is a lack of open teetimes, making an advanced teetime request isn't difficult either once you get use to the system.

In all fairness, it is hard to think of any system that accessed 46 golf courses like ours does here. THIS is one big group of golf courses.

It makes it much easier to schedule groups and to find availability and as Mikeod says to store everyone's numbers if you are making tee times for a group routinely.

It ain't free, but it is nice.

Also, to manage about 10,000 (yes, it's a good number) t-times per day would require quite a few more employees...(big cost increase)
