If you hit the ground, I will remember Clint Eastwood in In the Line of Fire..............."Aim High".

I continue to be amazed with a society, which crushed Nazi Germany and the Japanese Empire just 70 years ago, now trembling in its boots and restricting personal liberties at the thought of a terrorist attack.

I agree with the first part of your statement regarding the chances of a terror attack in TV,

but let's not forget that we forced tens of thousands of people of Japanese descent (many of whom were US citizens) into "internment" camps for the duration of WWII. Just sayin' we didn't defeat Japan without exhibiting some local paranoia too.

You might take the time to notice that pretty much all of these terrorist attacks are taking place in big cities.

I feel pretty safe here and don't see the need for excessive barricades in our town squares.

The last thing on my mind is concern that anywhere I go may be an ISIS target. Risk is inherent in life and for sure something is going to kill me someday

We had been at war with Japan just before that happened.. I was a little, little girl but I remember that people were afraid, not paranoid, but afraid. They were afraid of German descendants too. I was a German descendant. You cannot start painting history differently later on. It happened. People were afraid. Now people are not. Your statement above is flawed, if you had lived then, you would have felt the same fear.

Lol...amazing what retirees with too much time on their hands worry about.

With all the armed seniors here...no self respecting terrorist would try to do a thing.

Maybe the cops need to buy some Humvees to block potential attackers.

I think people looking out for another is the best recourse. If you see a neighbor or friend who is acting strangely find out what is going on with them carefully as not to further upset them.

And there are a lot of people carrying concealed weapons- retired police and military. These might be able to stop such an attacker. Be he/she doing this by vehicle, firearm or some kind of bomb.

Yea, that seems to happen a lot.

We are very, very vulnerable-remember a terror attack happened in Orlando- 1 hour away

Don't forget protecting the outdoor restaurants like City Fire, Johnny Rockets, Redsauce, and Gators. Lots of Villagers eat and drink at those each night. Hope The Developer gets on that right away!

We live in pre-paradise! We may look like a soft target but so many of us are retired military or law enforcement. I feel totally safe and secure thanks to all of you!

The statistics are overwhelming.

If someone were truly concerned about the safety of those at the squares, and were unbiased without an agenda...they would be a strong advocate of ceasing to serve strong, cheap, 2 for 1 alcoholic beverages.

Especially given that a large % of those drinking, will be getting in an automobile/golf cart...soon after consuming said drinks.

Agreed. It is only prudent to have some sort of barriers in place at the congested areas. There is nothing the "authorities" could do at this point to stop a speeding vehicle from driving right into a very congested area. It is not wise to bury your head in the sand.

This thread is ridiculous. Paranoia is not normal, nor are people that conceal carry. Absolutely nuts.

Anyone wanting to drink or smoke pot can readily buy it and do it at home. "Being unbiased and without an agenda" has little to do with selling liquor. It is a commodity that people want to buy and can buy in every place in this country. One can not govern peoples minds and legal choices. Seniors are not helpless children and will not allow others to make the decision for them what and when they can imbibe.

Go back and read the OP.

The thread is about keeping people 'safe' in the squares.

It's obvious where the supposed threat is implied to come from...and that is the bias/agenda.

Considering it is thousands of times more likely a person will be harmed by someone who has been drinking...I simply pointed out the obvious and inarguable statistics.
