Whenever the squares are crowded, they are surrounded by parked motor vehicles. Pretty effective no-cost to The Villages barriers.
Also, I have seen signs prohibiting trucks at the squares. A truck would stick out like a sore thumb.

That its only half the story. It is worthwhile to recycle aluminum, paper, and cardboard. Plastic and glass is more problematic.

A study in New York City showed that glass, metal and plastic recycling costs New York $240 per ton, almost double what it costs to just throw it away.

Perhaps the "Morse Family" realizes that at the Squares the public would negligently throw ordinary trash into recycle bins making the contents ineligible for running through the recycle machinery.

But, there are always some people who prefer to think the worst of the "Morse Family."

The corners also have those liquor sellers and other barriers. I suppose there might be a few approaches that could use some kind of hindrance to vehicular traffic.

According to the Southern Poverty Center there are between five and eight thousand KKK members in the U.S. That would be five to eight thousand too many for me and most of us. I can't see them coming here, can you? Is that who you meant? Or did you mean the awful people who try to kill police officers?

number of kkk members today - Bing

I meant ALL home-grown hate-groups...not just the KKK.

In the Aryan Brotherhood alone...there are an estimated 10,000 members.

Aryan Brotherhood - Wikipedia
Quote:

The Aryan Brotherhood, also known as the Brand, or the AB, is a white supremacist prison gang and organized crime syndicate in the United States with about 10,000 members in and out of prison.
And while the average number of members for the other 900+ hate-groups the SPLC keeps track of are probably less than the AB...it's still a significant amount.

Hate Map | Southern Poverty Law Center
Quote:

917 = Hate Groups currently operating in the US. Track them below with our Hate Map.

And for the record, I abhor ANY "awful people" that calls for killing cops...or anyone else for that matter.

But don't get confused by the fact that just because there might be a minuscule number of people in a group calling for something...that means the entire group/organization feel the same way.

In other words, it's easy to get fooled by things like this.

Black Lives Matter Protesters Chant for 'Dead Cops Now' in Baton Rouge

But as I was saying, the 900+ home-grown hate-groups... are very unlikely to target The Villages.

We are in SC right now -- awaiting 2-plus minutes of totality tomorrow. This morning, we went to a lovely church service that ended with singing "Let There Be Peace On Earth.......and let it begin with me"......(That song always makes me have tears......but I digress.)

So anyway, on our way back to where we are staying, we passed a church that had a sign in the yard that said, "Turn Off the News and Love Thy Neighbor." (sigh)

That's a good point about the parked cars and golf carts around the square, you can't find a spot to park once the band starts, so how can a terrorist drive a vehicle into the square.

Although I have to say, people sometimes let their stupidity get ahead of their curiosity. About 3 years ago I was at LSL and one of the good bands was playing and it was high season and the place was packed. A brand new Chevrolet either a Cruze or Malibu, or similar was on the street stopped at the light between City Fire and the first beer hut. For some reason the car caught on fire, and you would not believe the crowd that gathered, very closely I would say to the car. I'm standing over by Johnny Rockets, far enough away I felt safe and with probably 100 people between me and the car. I'm thinking any minute the gas tank is going to blow and there is some guy trying to get his suit cases and stuff out of the trunk and back seat. The flames are very hot, and within a minute a fire truck is pulling up and douses the car without the gas tank blowing. Just another day at The Villages.

Just take a good look at all 3 and you will see.

Well I wouldn't get to paranoid about this. Putting heavy planters around the sq. where people are dancing would probably protect us but I think if anyone would want to kill a bunch of people here they would do better planning & figure out how to do something around the Gazebo. Besides do you really think this is what a terrorist or a nut case wants to do is to kill a bunch of senior citizens.I would think they would rather hit the Super Bowl where's there's 10's of thousands of people. Don't get to worked up about us here in TV. I'm sure TV's board isn't going to put a lot of money in the square. I'm sure the odds of that happening here is like winning the lottery.

Well Wiotte,
Were you aware of the recent van killings by a terrorist cell in Barcelona? I don't think The Villages is a target, but I do think Isis hates Americans a lot. I don't think I am paranoid about terrorists, I think I am a realist. I don't think that extreme Islam is focused on us here in The Villages. I won't EVER forget nine eleven.

It is not ISIS which has been doing most of these attacks of late. It is some alienated teenager or twenty something who has been poisoned by their propaganda online and then ISIS takes credit after these murderous attacks. A good counter of this is for people to keep track of their neighbors especially ones who are the targets of bullies or whom are alienated from others for some reason. If you see someone being bullied put out a friendly hand to the victim of this sociopathic behavior.
