I totally agree with you. I hope The Villages management will take note.

Saw about six police officers yesterday dealing with a woman in the CR466 Walmart parking lot. She had handcuffs on and was talking to the police. Not sure what was going on. I was not about to ask. I did notice that they gave her a drink of bottled water.

They have a pretty quick response to stuff given how many different police forces are around-- Lady Lake, Fruitland Park, Wildwood, Sumter County, Lake County, Marion County, the Florida Highway Patrol, etc.

I think they know what they are doing here and do keep tabs on people who might be a threat in some way. Best thing we can do is if we see something off, contact the police. Use your cell phone to record stuff.

There ARE cameras at the gates.

Cameras don't prevent a thing, all they do is aid in apprehension

Maybe we help the perspective with this scenario.

It is significantly more likely you will be killed or maimed on the roadways, highways and MMP ().

Yet every day and multiple times per day we all take on that risk automatically without much thought about not coming back. And while there are rules and laws that help govern vehicle traffic the roadway slaughter continues day after day. With no calling out of additional measures to protect us from such an event.

Long and short of it? If they are not fortifying Times Square and the visitor traffic is no less than it ever was......then we are all as snug as a bug in a rug here in TV.

PERSPECTIVE!!!!

Regardless, it could never happen retroactively for a variety of logistical, financial, and legal reasons. Everyone who bought here knew, or should have known, that The Villages is not a gated community. If you really want to live in a gated community there a lot of them around. I have lived in a gated community and the grass is always greener on the other side ;-)
Excellent perspective, thanks Biker.

We moved here because we thought it was a safe place for old folks. I hope some of the posts here are an exaggeration.

The sky is not falling. Don't worry, you made the right decision.
It's a VERY safe place for old folks. Lots of us live here happily and without worry.

Well thank you Mr. Kid. We did our research and chose The Villages over all the rest with one main consideration and that was crime statistics. Lots of retirement locations had wonderful things to offer, but The Villages had what we were looking for: entertainment facilities, dining, pubs and physical activities.
