Here are some great tips to follow while driving in our community: Be courteous, follow the speed limit, stay off the cell phone (what did we do before cell phones?)and pay attention to what you are doing (like driving a car or golf cart and use a little common sense. I saw a lady this afternoon driving a golf cart in one of the Publix parking lots. She really looked strange as her head was tilted at a weird angle and her eyes were downcast and not looking at all where she was going, and her hand was shaking like she had some form of palsey. I was walking and as she went past, I realized she had a scratch off lottery ticket clipped to the steering wheel center where the golf score card goes and was intently scratching away at it with a coin.

Golf Cart Safety - Guidelines for Golf Cart Safety

I was driving the golf cart north on Buena Vista on the cart path a few weeks ago. Approaching me from the north doing an Arkansas turn was a senior who did not seem to be able to keep control of his golf cart as he took the turn way too fast. I had to go partly onto the grass to avoid a head-on collision. The idiot did not even brake. This man was acting stupid. I only see things like this once in a while here in the Villages but I do not use the golf cart heavily like many others do. The golf cart trains are also a hazard where a group of a line of golf carts run the stop signs as soon as the first one has stopped and makes sure you have stopped.

Never saw that but my friends told me they witnessed it.

Can I add -- Never drive your car on the multi-model paths. They were not designed for cars!!!

We were driving our golf cart southbound at night and during a heavy rain storm alonf BV Blvd between Stillwater and Lake Miona Rec Ctr. when a tan Ford Explorer was coming at us. We quickly noticed that the headlights were wider than usually found on a golf cart and slowed and pulled over to let the car go by:shocked:

That's the best tip I've seen yet. With all the people I see on a daily basis in their carts with cell phones, buzzing past me, not looking ahead of where they are going then having to slam on their brakes it's no wonder the POA newsletter is filled with golf cart accident reports. People treat their cart like it's a toy.

It would be great if people knew who has the right of way. I realize that most people are just trying to be nice (either that or my driving scares them-LOL), but if you are making a right by Colony and I am across from you making a left YOU HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY. My pulling into the middle of the road doesn't change anything. Waving me on just messes things up more.

Tip: At an unmanned pair of gates, after swiping your card and the resident gate goes up, do not pull forward 3 feet, STOP, and wave a waiting golf cart on your left (in the space between the vehicle lanes) to cross in front of you! The car using the visitor gate will not expect this. If the golf cart driver is foolish enough to follow your waving, the car in the visitor lane will probably hit the cart!

Today I was driving the car using the visitor gate. Fortunately the golf cart driver knew better and waited.

Good point. In fact, somewhere in the literature TV says that cars have the right of way at all times and for safety reasons should not stop and waive a cart through.

At the St. James entrance a bit ago, the car in front of me decided to waive a cart through, and the cart behind that cart decided to tailgate his way through after him and almost got hit. Not even any eye contact from him. Arrogant.

I'd be trying too hard if I stopped myself from saying: DON'T Park on 301 in Wildwood!!
Saw a car today STOPPED COLD on US 301, on the strip in Wildwood, using half of the right lane, while loading up GRANDMA with her walker after her shopping trip.
People this is not small town main street. It is US, as in United States Highway 301.
About 10-12 feet or so, just taking corner, from Grandma and her walker was a perfect parking lot where she could have safely gotten into the vehicle. But folks PARKED on a US highway to load up a disabled person.
301 is a thousand mile US highway. Don't park on it unless you want to kill Grandma.
