If it isn't a rip off when you are advised by experts, to have auto items replaced that are neither defective or unsafe, I don't know what is. Sure, the customer was given a choice, that is part of the scam but how many little old ladies are capable or resisting this ploy. And you can rest assured that the ownership of all these tire stores is giving those employees incentitive bonuses for selling anything and everything they can.

A tip is a far cry from being urged to purchase four new tires or a thousand dollars of unnecessary repairs.

Personally, I love it when a mechanic climbs all over my car and produces a grocery list of needed items.

I usually buy an air freshener and take the car to another doubtful proprietor and have their mechanic climb all over the car and then I compare notes and prices.

I have the most serious and dangerous work done i.e. brakes, lights etc. and wait for the others to cause the vehicle to STOP RUNNING before I have it fixed.

I realize that many have a great need to avoid break downs and would prefer to keep their car running well, but I hate giving up a perfectly well running vehicle and getting the same back but with a bill to pay.

I like giving them a dysfunctional vehicle paying the bill and getting a running vehicle back.

And just aside, who would put $1800-2,000 into a car just to drive to the nearest rotary and have someone T-BONE them after five trips to the bait shack for two-fers? I really can't see anyone saying yes to five repairs on one service.

I've been to Tire Choice. I've got the grocery list. I let them do an oil change. I like them well enough.

Next month they can tighten the lock nut on the steering wheel..but it turns ok now.

I'm not missing anything. I only read his post and it sounded like good experience. Why would a post after the fact take that away?

Just had my oil changed at Tire Choice @colony. They told me I needed new rear brakes and rotors. Quoted me a price of $417.00. Took it to Sumter Tire in Wildwood. They also said rear brake pads needed to be replaced and rotors turned. I had them do the work. Cost:$150.00. This is not my first run in with Tire Choice but it will be my last.

Some places don't even have the equipment to turn rotors, so they foist new ones (more expensive) on customers.
If you think that you may need rotor resurfacing, call around to see who can do it. You'll save big bucks.

Just because you can resurface doesn't mean it's the best option. Many newer cars require replacement of rotors not being turned. Old methods don't always apply.

Today new rotors are very cheap on most cars, it faster to pop them on for a shop than send old ones to to cut.

In an effort to determine truth here is another 2 cents.

My vehicle would not shift from low. Was running at 3500 RMP at all times. This was Sunday.

Had AAA tow to Tire Choice.

They tested..computer and other items. Verdict= bad transmission. Advised to take to Ammco.

I've had no problem with TC at Colony. They said I needed front struts on my '03 vehicle with 140k miles, and I'm sure I did. They did it for less than a quote I got from another place. About 3 months later I had a noise in the front end. I took it back to TC and they said one of the struts was making the noise. They replaced them both with premium struts at no cost. I bought a used Mustang, and got new tires over the internet. They installed the tires, but one of the tires couldn't balance up right. They used their roadforce balancer and literally spent hours getting the road force within acceptable limits to me. No cost! I can't think of another auto repair place I've ever dealt with that would have done that. Manager at Colony TC is Mike May -- quality guy!
