Default Toilet in Guard shack

Being all the Guard shacks are there just to create the perception of security, which is a joke, why spend a million dollars to put a toilet in the one at Shea gate, such a waste. Get a Porta-a-Potty!

Sure, they'll put it up right in front of the flower bed. Such a lovely adornment for the neighborhood, I'm sure they'll all be happy.

Once again, common sense won't prevail. I wonder which connected plumber will get the lucrative contract. I'm sure it will be air conditioned and have a padded toilet seat, and telephone.

The estimate was $135K to $165K. You are only off by about an order of magnitude.

That still seems rather expensive? This isn't NASA.

What do you base your opinion on? How much do you think it costs to run sewer and water pipes from the main line to the guard shack? How much to install the plumbing for the toilet and sink? How much for the hot water heater? How much to do the actual building of the room, which currently doesn't exist, in the limited amount of space available to build it?

It's not just a matter of putting up 4 walls and a tin roof in the middle of the road and bolting a toilet down to the floor. The thing needs plumbing, and that means ripping the street up, installing the pipes, restoring the street after the pipes have been placed, etc. etc.

That stuff isn't cheap. Not nasa expensive, but this isn't a DIY job.

I wonder if they could install a bidet and a urinal. How about a small fridge and microwave oven?

We must have it pretty good here if this is all we have to worry about.

If you really want to know..... call and ask. Don't forget the part about $1,000,000 so they know you're serious.

Look up the building permit. That might give you the info you want on costs.

Maybe you should spend a night shift in one if them to see if it increases security. All you'll need is a large bucket to get you through the night.

The fact that there are dozens of whole homes for sale in the area costing less than that, and I suspect that they all have hot and cold running water, sewers and walls. Certainly, retro-fitting adds to the cost, but $165,000?
