That is so wrong. We are in our mid-60s and the majority of our neighbors are between 70 and 80! |

Living here is great--Moving, though gets harder each year!
We made the move in our early 70's and our only regret is that we waited so long! Being here is fabulous; people are so welcoming and there is so much to do you cannot be bored unless you choose to.
I would encourage you to do it ASAP because the only really bad part is the packing up and moving at our age. It is grueling, and will only be harder the older you get!:welcome: |
It is NOT late.. my advice to you is select your village (neighborhood) wisely. Many times it is best to buy a preowned home. New homes, in new neighborhoods are occupied with newly retired people (mid fiftys to mid 60s) along with their adult children. That is children who have accomplished nothing in theier life and live free on mom and dad. TV started in the historic section. Residents are in their late 70s to 80s. As each village is built newly retired people buy and move in. My wife and i live in Sable Chase, near sumter landing. It was built in 2006. All of the residents are in early to mid 70s. I am 71 and all of my neighbors are of the same age. 1/2 mile from my home is 3 pools 2 recreation centers. Homes have had many upgrades. Finished landscaping, i installed an $8,000 hicory flooring etc. Good luck and God bless you.

We bought a new designer home, on a little pond and we could not be happier with our decision. Buying new, gave us the opportunity to make our own improvements as opposed to the pre-owned market where you may have to accept and pay for updates that are not important to you. We like to take morning walks and we love the availability of the paths around the ponds and green spaces in our own neighborhood. As many people recommend, you have to come and see it yourself. Good luck and yes, we are a part of the more “mature” group. :) |

North or South of 44 there are great neighborhoods and great people and you should tour both. The bridge over the turnpike is now open and it is a 12 minute golf cart ride from our home in Marsh Bend to Brownwood Square and in a few minutes you can be near the middle of the "old Villages". The nice thing about the newer areas is everyone is new and eager to meet new people. Come and visit on a Lifestyle visit and see for yourself as others have suggested.

Old is a state of mind
If you want to live a healthy lifestyle with plenty of things to keep you entertained, TV is the place to be. No sleet, snow and freezing rain to contend with. If you don't have any issues making friends, finding a new church, doctors, hairstylists, etc. you'll fit right in. But, like everything it's not for everyone so do your due diligence before transferring all your worldly possessions. Rent here for a few months and talk to people to get a feel for things.

Your age group would be between Rt. 466 and toward Rt. 44. Check a Villages map for this location. These homes were all built between 2005 and 2014 or so. Many nice ones come up for sale all the time. Contact the Villages sales office at 352-753-6655 and the web site at The Villages - Florida's Friendliest Active Adult 55+ Retirement Community. If you are in to golf, the majority of courses, and all 12 championship courses, are north of Rt. 44.

We are in our early 60's and live south of 44. No one cares your chronological age. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming.

Sorry The Discussion Turned Away From Your Question

Here is a bit of the bad side. I've decided The Villages are 90% filled with older people at the end of their journey who just want to enjoy life and others like them. Then there are 10% who are just crabby old people. I live in Pinellas, a wonderful community north of Fenney area, but come sample the lifestyle and make your own decision. You will love it here. Sorry for being so winded. |

Uh Oh! We're 5 years older than you and, after renting for a few winters, we're going to buy this fall. We're looking up north. TV seems set up for folks in 70's and older in many ways. I believe that you should come down and enjoy the Villages!

No it is not The Villages will keep you young Check out all the areas. Don’t listen to people who say don’t go to this area or that area. Spend a week or so and check out the new areas and the old. I can’t believe people actually say where to look. They don’t know you, everyone is different. I live in the newer area, across the turnpike. Monarch Grove to be honest and love everything here. We now have the bridge for golf cart. 17 min ride to Brownwood and what a beautiful ride. The villages put so much money in the landscaping it’s unreal. Well worth the look. My “new” neighborhood and community does not just seem to the “young” I’m 57 all my neighbors are 70 and up. Don’t let the “old timers” talk you out of checking the new communities. Some of them are jealous cause of all the new and improved homes and stores and landscaping..just saying..good luck and you will love it here and live better! 😎

My suggestion would be to live in a newer area where the residents are new and interested in making new friendships. We’ve lived here 9 years and moved into an already settled village where we met lots of people but only see these people at events. Friendships had already been established and no one seemed interested in including new people. We’re thinking of moving to the newer area to make new friendships and start over. It’s also difficult if you don’t golf or are single.

Not so... age is a number...

I own in the south and my husband and I are 71 and 72 and there are others who are in their 70s. So don’t hestate to live in the southern end. You should look around to find the right location for what you want to be near. Golfing, shopping, entertainment, dining out, classes, etc.
|
When you find the right house/location everything else will be what you make it or allow no matter where in TV or how old/young the neighbors.
|
I disagree with almost everything you have said. We purchased last year at 80. We live in the Village of James (all new homes) in Monarch Grove. The ages vary here but I doubt there are many under 72. Since we were all new, we all wanted to make friends. It is a wonderful neighborhood full of fun, fascinating folks.
|
No.
I would look for an over 55 community and buy in an established section. My assumption is that the established section will have more neighbors similar in age to you. But if you want to buy new I see no reason not to do that either. |
They quit buying up homes in the historic side 2 years ago. There are 300 newer homes that were built 2-5 years ago. There is a non Villages builder in the process of building 3 new homes now in The historic side. Donna Fenster (#1 Villages sales rep) will be selling those even though they aren’t being built by The Villages.
