Good to hear from a former librarian.

The big problems for libraries are 1. Not enough money to buy new books; Not enough staff to process new materials and service patrons; Not enough space to store and display new materials.
The cost to process materials and put them on the shelf is substantial. If the library has more unpaid volunteers than they can use for shelf reading and other chores, the money the book sales take in MAY justify the space for storage and periodic book sales, but the "gift" of your unwanted discards is, at best, a mixed blessing.

The library wants to serve you and needs your help. If you give them a few bucks every year, that would be great. Donating last year's pot boiler -- not so much.

Consider the public library in all 3 counties will accept donations as we as the Mark Twain Library in Paradise Rec center (limited).

Also there is a used book store in Colony, "All Booked Up"

I hope this helps!

Before I moved here I donated 500 books to John Knox Village in Tampa for
their Senior library.

Pinellas Library takes donated books also.

I finally had to start using Ibooks due to my avid reading. ☺️

The store is located across the street from the Super Walmart on Hwy 441

Too Many Books

We will be glad to have you donate books to the new Free Little Library just installed in Wildwood by the Woman's Club of The Villages (read about it in today's Daily Sun). You may contact Carol Newton at 352-399-6307 or chnewton@msn.com.

They either place them on library shelves or sell them in their tiny book store. The best thing about it is you can put 20 in the back of your vehicle and when your out that way, day or night, weekday or Sunday, you can’t put them in the drop box. Will take some time to get rid of 200, but a little at a time and you’ll be done.

The drop slots outside the library are for returning borrowed books and media. I don't think the library wants you to put donations in those slots. Did you ask them about that?

DH and I are starting to clear the house in preparation of his retirement in two years and moving to TV. We gave away 1000+ books in December. Our local library is picky about what it accepts, and that many was too much for them to handle. I practice law in multiple counties. I took a trunkful to different counties and gave them to Salvation Army or Goodwill over a week or so. All were grateful.

I'll take/buy some. About 10.
Pls private message me your contact info.

I have about.200 new books (mostly fiction but many nonfiction) that I want to sell or donate and I have no idea how to go about it.
Any advice would be welcome. Please send me a private message and I will respond

Do any of the rec centers have a library? I sure would love to be able to pick up a book and drop off a book every now and then. When I taught, my class did a special project where they built a "Little Free Library". People donated books for it and then people could get one to read, return it or keep it and get another. Focused on grade school aged children but I have seen them for older children and adults.

I don't think the rec centers have libraries. But, if you need a jigsaw puzzle, they have them at the Silver Lake rec center.

Happy Anniversary. You have been on TOV for one year. In that time you have created 4003 posts which I suspect is a new record.

Mimi0808 02-01-2021 07:20 AM

Try the schools in the areas.

MizJodi 02-01-2021 09:27 AM

Don’t know how to pm. Scheduling a fund raiser in Hillsborough for our AED program. Are books still available?

chuckpedrey 02-01-2021 09:36 AM

Contact the Mark Twain library for donations

Donating books

I used to donate my books to the schools. Any books they couldn’t use they put in the faculty room for the teachers

crydzanich 02-01-2021 10:34 AM

The Santiago Womens Club has a book sale every year. The monies made go to local charities. It’s always been held in March but because of COVID they couldn’t have it. The next one is scheduled for August.

retiredguy123 02-01-2021 10:44 AM

Actually, the Sumter County library at Pinellas doesn't accept donated books, but, the Friends of the Library located inside of the library does. The library opens at 9 AM, but the Friends of the Library opens at 10 and closes around 2 PM. I was there a few months ago when a guy had to haul several boxes of books back to his car because the library wouldn't accept them because the Friends of the Library was not open. Also, the library does not want you to put donations into the outside drop box. That box is only for returning borrowed material.

KWinka 02-02-2021 08:55 AM

Hi! Are these books still available and where are you located? Our neighborhood is having a community yard sale to benefit our AED program. We would pick up whatever you would like to donate.

I sent you a private message on January 30th and you have not responded.

Are you still interested in selling your books?

cj1040 02-03-2021 08:36 AM

Some thrift shops will take them - try ebay selling - or donate to a library - I have done it all.
