Default NEEDED: electric golf cart maintenance info.

When our sellers offered to sell us their electric golf cart (along with the house), it seemed a no-brainer decision. We wanted electric, the price was right, it had had hardly any use and, though older, looks in mint condition (even the tires look new). We've used it several times and it runs fine.

What we've noticed is that there's a little leakage from the batteries onto the garage floor. We looked at it closely and we can see that yellow 'stuff' (sulfur from the acid in the batteries?) forming around the plastic bases of some of the batteries and from there dripping onto the floor (no corrosion around the terminals). How it's forming around the bottoms of the batteries when they show no sign of leakage from the tops is puzzling; it would be hard to imagine them leaking THROUGH the battery cases....

We have no problem with replacing all the batteries and starting fresh, but is this necessary? If it's not, what should we be doing in terms of care for the batteries? And if we must replace them, where is a good place to purchase a new set of batteries (especially finding a place that will take and recycle the old ones)? Thanks for all tips!

I just spoke to my husband about your problem and he wants to know how old are the batteries? It can be leaking through the battery case.

We have used Ken Spano Golf Cart Batteries to replace our batteries and we have not had any problems. Ken's number is 352-804-0722.

Hope this helps.

Old or new batteries we keep a carpet under the gollf cart. Both seem to leak something.
