Hey Hope,

Apologies. I'm not really giving you a hard time. - just losing a little in the translation into cyberspeak I guess.

And as far as Tony goes, I am just yankin' his chain.

Kathie, are you OK?

sic....sic..... ::)

My heart was pounding so hard, I had some white wine and I don't drink!!!

So that's it for me, say bye bye to Kathie!! LOL

BBB, it wasn't so much that people where making me scared, it was that I've never seen rain fall horizontally!!! So much thunder and lightening and this weather radio has been squealing and whistling for a few hours. So all in all, it wasn't the words that were scaring me, it was what was happening outside. Guess I'd better get used to it if I'm gonna live here.

Hey Kathie, I am watching my infamous web cam and things look a lot better at LSL. In fact people are moving chairs in place with their umbrellas open. You gotta love TV. Nothing can stop the dancin'. Good luck all!

Re: Tornado Watch

Kathie,

I am so glad you popped back on here. I truly was getting a little worried about you.

I understand. And I do apologize for sounding so removed.

When the thing came on and said warning, it grabbed me. I know that considering what happened there a year ago, the word tornado becomes even more frightening. My husband has a friend whose house in TV was hit hard. I remember being so surprised that morning when I turned on the news. As I understand it, tornadoes are not that common there. In our area we get so used to that "watch" thing - probably too used to it.

After the site seemed to freeze for awhile, I searched some weather sites and saw that you were having horrendous rains. I hate the lightning that goes with those and I really hate high winds.

So anyway, I am glad you are OK. And I know what you mean about the heart pounding. I was alone in an elevator that decided to stop and toy with me for awhile by not opening the door. My heart really went into overdrive on that one. It is a terrible feeling.

I hope the rest of your evening is much, much better.

Weather report from "chicken" Kathie

All is well here in TV, stuck my head outside and it calmed down a lot. Thank goodness!!

It really was scary and every time there was a clap of thunder, I screamed, like an idiot.
We don't get thunder and lightening in L.A. Don't ask me why? We just don't.

But we're all okay. Was on PM's and IM's with all my friends and they were supporting me as usual. We never lost power so that was good. But the weather radio really scared me too death.

So after a few more "sips" of Pinot Grigio, I'll be fine.....Thanks all for your concerns. Kath

We had a 20 foot Queen Palm tree planted on Saturday. Lovely.

Fireboy has been out admiring it on a regular basis. Well ..... our Queen Palm is now lying in the driveway! It took out the front pole light as it crashed down around 5:30 PM. (just missing the SUV). Fireboy is on the phone to the landscaping company. Now we'll see whether it pays to use a "reputable" company!!

Said company will be roundly trashed here if they don't repair everything! ;)

Re: Tornado Watch

Barefoot, In my trip around TV today looking for homes, there was a house in Mallory, on a corner lot, that obviously had just planted about 6-7 Queen Palms maybe 10-12 feet high.

They were all on the ground. I felt so bad for the people, and this was before the storm, when it was just extremely windy.

I think that Queen Palms have very shallow root balls because in CA we have to secure them more than any other tree until they develop some good roots. In certain parts of L.A. we have very severe Santa Ana winds and know about the necessity for proper staking of trees.

Good luck with them. Hope the landscaper will be professional and fix everything properly.

Kath

I changed your subject line from "Warning" to "Watch." It was imperative that I do so because there is a huge difference between the two. Leaving the subject line with Warning in it would have been false information that you don't want to spread.

The difference is this:

Watch "this movie theater is filthy dirty, there might be a fire in here.
Warning "The move theater is on fire."

Muncle beat me to it for tornado links as some company came yesterday around 4 pm so I have been away from the computer for a while.

Sorry for the mistake. ::)

Hope:

"Watch/Warning" I didn't care.... :dontknow:

I didn't like the word "Tornado"!!! :yikes:

Thanks for the "heads up" though cause I didn't know why the weather radio was squealing and screaming at me.

Appreciative, Kathie

Re: Tornado Watch

All's well that ends well.

I certainly understand the watch/warning confusion if it is not something that you are used to. We had to learn it around here, but I remember the days, at first, when we did not get it.

At the risk of sounding like I am giving you homework, those of you who are not familiar with tornadoes and want to know more might want to take a look at the links provided by Muncle above. Basements 'R' Us here in the Midwest, but not always, of course, so there is more to the plan.

Landscaper says it is too windy today to replant our 20 foot Queen Palm. It is still lying in the driveway. Not sure if I should believe him. :dontknow: Palm trees look so much nicer standing up than lying in the driveway. ;D

Also, the tree took out our light post (same kind as everyone else on the street). Not sure if I should call the Villages about getting a replacement or try to figure it out myself. Fireboy has gone back to Canada to work. Anyone out there have any knowledge of how to get a light post repaired or replaced?

Holy Cow! Maybe our five inches of snow this morning was okay. You have all got me as scared as Kathie and I'm not even there. Is this a normal occurrence at TV, and where does one go to be safe? As for thunder, wind and rain I have a German shepherd that will probable be on Valium when we get to TV
