Hopefully the new owner will make some changes and initiate a new forum about the negative trauma that all the dogs are causing here in TV..As you know this has been the theme of my many posts and I would like to apologize to start off on the right foot......
Also a new rule that states if you post over 5000 hits , you have to state something of value..I may have overstated myself a little and hopefully didn't hurt anyones feelings.........and the term " Boy Howdy" although very endearing is not unusual to someone born in Missouri....although it does bring back a lot of memories of my childhood.....also I would like to apologize for the remarks I made about Chels regarding her mouthwash , which was unkind and I apologize.....So as you can see I have pondered this calamity looking for the bright side for sometime for something to be excited about , Today I think I have found it.............

Nitehawk, you have a good point. We probably do get carried away at times! I'm not part of the "inner circle", and I don't have over 5,000 posts. But I am good friends with some of the posters, so I guess I'm an offender, saying personal things occasionally.

I do find it annoying to click on a thread about Street-Legal Golf Carts and find ten posts about the price of asparagus, or who lives in Idaho. But I figure I can always quickly skip through whatever posts don't interest me.

Overall I think we've got a very congenial group that try hard to be polite and inclusive. This particular thread is of a personal nature cuz we're saying goodbye to the Big Guys, which brings back memories. I remember meeting Jan (Talkhost) and his wife way back in 2007 at one of our first TOTV meetings. I bet that Jan still has a picture of the group. Oh darn, there I go again!

Our very first TOTV meeting way back when in 2007 and Jan took the pictures.....barb1191

Hi Barefoot and Barb,

I never stay up this late, but here I am tonight. And you two sure are right. There are lots of memories here in these archives.

We remember so many things......like when Barefoot started the "Girl Talk" thread and we had so much fun there.......and.........and......ohhhhhhh........I just cannot let myself get started or I could actually end up sitting here all night going on and on with "A Not-So-Brief History of TOTV." I would get all nostalgic. So, this time, I better stop before I start.

I have to leave a message for Mr. Tony now and then I have to say Goodnight. It is way too late for me to be posting. I should never type after midnight.

Boomer

When I read your post, I gave the approval nod and facial expression of total agreement, then I went to see who I was agreeing to have take a break. Wow, these are five of the most kind members of the board. This board may very well implode if they stopped talking. Compare these five with some of the heavy posters in political and I would say silence them first. So although I agree with you in theory, I must say let em gossip.

When I first saw TOTV in 2007, I did not even know what a forum was. Being internet-shy, I watched for a while and then decided that people seemed nice and so I signed on. I have had a lot of fun. Thank you.

And now.......one more time........

Dear Mr. Tony, Mr. Admin Emeritus, Sir:

So many, many times, you have gone beyond speculation and have actually flat-out accused me of being an English major.

English majors have to be so careful because they are so often besmirched. And somewhere along the line, you got it in your head that I am an English major.

What was it anyway?

Was it the story I told about my English teacher friend who lied about her job when she met a guy she liked? But if she did not like him, she told him that she was an English teacher so he would just move down another barstool and leave her alone. (You thought that was me I bet. But it wasn't. Really. It was my friend.)

If I were not so darned lazy, I would dig through these archives and find all those times you set your traps and tried to catch me......

You even posted a cartoon making fun of English majors partying. Ohhhhhhh, I remember that cartoon. It showed English majors having such a good time at their party, playing "Pin the Apostrophe in the Right Place." (Ya know, when you posted that one, I probably should have tried to gather up a few English majors around here and invite them to a party and then I would invite you, too.....just so the English majors could play "Spin the Science Major." How would you have liked that.)

But now, here I am, in the wee hours of the morning -- unusual for me to be awake so late -- here thinking about how henceforth you will be known as Mr. Tony, Mr. Admin Emeritus, Sir. And so.......

I have decided the time has come to tell you that even though you were a science major, the fact that you were also a newspaper editor somehow made that narrator who lives in my head see you as being kind of like our own Lou Grant, watching over things and taking care of stuff.

And I am saying thank you. (Yes. I know Ed Asner is too old now to play you in "TOTV: The Movie" but that's OK. We'll find somebody.)

And now, guess what else I am going to tell you........

You were right.

You won.

A fun run.

Done.

Well done, Mr. Tony, Mr. Admin Emeritus, Sir.

I would give you a A+ well written

I was right? I WAS RIGHT? I was right about what?

You ARE an English major. Boomer? An English major? I never would have guessed.

But thanks, Boomer, for the fond send-off, but don't you think "emeritus" denotes such an old person? If you really were an English major you would know the fine nuance of word meanings. Or do you?

Fergoodnesssake! Now I will never be sure.

It gave/gives me a bit of insight as to some folks' personalities and how they look at things.

I guess I look at the forum as more than just a place to strictly get/give information. The other communication aspects I find interesting......but that's just me. Kinda gives the forum some 'personality' - gives it other facets than just an information exchange. Granted, some of the interpersonal 'stuff' can get a bit carried away at times - I'm probably a prime 'violator' of that concept! On the whole, though, I think it's a bunch of fun and very informative. But it's probably not a one-size-fits-all thing either - everyone's going to have their own personal perspective. Just thought I'd share mine!

Bill, I agree with you up to a point. I too find it interesting to view the banter back and forth, the good natured comments and teasing, etc. But there have been times when one person in "the circle" posts something negative, then others get on to back up the person if someone else calls them out or disagrees. I've seen where a group will gang up on some poor poster because he/she had the audacity to disagree with one of their gang. IMHO this is taking it too far, and perhaps that was what nitehawk was referring to. Thankfully, that type of behavior seems to be on the downswing, and haven't really seen a lot of it recently. Maybe people are learning how to play nicely.

Good point, taj. An observation: I can recall instances where some of the backlash I believe you're speaking of seems to get propagated not necessarily by the content of the points being made but the tone of it all - - - HOW the points are presented. Things that start off pretty edgy will many times head straight downhill from there. Then everyone's piling on! :D And you're right - I think those instances are becoming fewer and farther between.

Bill :)

Hats off to Taj, Diskman, nitehawk.

I appreciate you telling it like it is...:BigApplause:

I was the target of the few which think they own this board.

There are way too many thousands of great activities, and great friends here to be on a computer.

Bill, I appreciate the way you give good info to posters. Keep up the good work!

Good points, Taj. Ganging up on a poster is not good-natured comment. It's rude and ill mannered.
