This is great, I think we are getting to a nice sized group. I forgot who had the name tags and pens, if anyone remembers or has some let me know.

Right! The third Thursday at 3 p.m. was the schedule formerly used.

It would be quicker for me to go from Lake Deaton to the Fenney Grill than to Habaneros. As with all meeting sites for clubs, as the Villages grow it’s more difficult to find a location that’s within less than a half hour total travel time for participants to attend. One may have to change that to 1 hour total travel time in 5 years. So, I might attend once in a while. Good luck with your efforts.

Just a couple of FYIs. We set it at 3:00 pm at Crisper’s request — they didn’t want a large group interfering with the lunch crowd. People showed up when they could and left when they had to. We were never able to get an exact number of how many would attend. Crisper’s did not require food and drink orders and we could arrange our own seating indoors or out, depending on the weather.
It sounds like Habaneros will be seating us and will expect a head count. This could be difficult. Some will probably balk at ordering anything. I hope you can restart the meet and greet. They really were fun and it is nice to put faces to names. I would say day, time and location need not be the same as it was. Just find a restaurant that can accommodate an unknown number of folks, will let them rearrange tables and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Just make sure that the day and time are the same each month so folks can have a monthly schedule. Good luck!

I would imagine that restaurants expect you to order food and drinks. Perhaps a pavilion at one of the rec centers would be a viable alternative. Less time constraint and BYO.

Can you imagine adults not understanding restaurants are businesses?? And I hope a good tip will be left if there is a lot of lingering...Servers have bills to pay too, not there for fun. JMO. |

This thread isn't meant to be a controversy but when a bunch of folks want to be involved ALL sorts of opinions. I have no issue with Habenaro's. Think of it this way---wonder if a whole group had decided to go there and showed up. The establishment "might" have appreciated a head-count but it was "last minute"---so they would accomodate. I think whomever is the organizer, YOU can decide and those that want to show up does. I would do it and gladly order take-out. As an aside to this...a few years back a group that met regularily asked Panera for their meeting room. It was understood that many would order food while there. Eventually Panera changed things and said "you can have the room BUT you will need to pre-order (ie. their catering option) to do it and you need a certain number to do this too. We changed our meeting place. IF Habanaros ends up not being viable, THEN decide a different place (together).

I second that emotion Chi! I would think that a centrally located rec center location would work much better than a restaurant. Bring your own drinks and snacks and don't worry about disrupting or accomidating a business. I attended several from 2010 to 2015 and enjoyed meeting people face to face. I would attend when in TV.

And maybe even instead of a pavilion, why not just reserve a room at a Rec Center...in case of inclement weather? We have how many Rec Centers...times how many rooms in each? I'll even say that I'll be there...so as to draw the maximum crowd. |

Yeah, I can see how it would be much easier to convince a restaurant to let a bunch of people show up, hang out taking up seats...but not order anything.
Oh wait, didn't the last place that said it was OK...go out of business? I'm sure that unfortunate result though, was not reflective...on poor business decisions in general. |
