It would be wonderful if we had a crystal ball and knew if we liked or didn't like a post before reading it. Unfortunately, no one has that power.

At times it is fun to kid around and poke fun at each other but i don't think this forum is the proper place to
do that.

But Warren, in my humble opinion, TOTV is meant to be a chat site. Yes, exchange of information is the basis. But I think it's also a place to chat, have fun, express opinions, make jokes, and get side tracked. I have personally grown very fond of some posters on TOTV. Some I've met and I'm lucky to call them friends. Some I've never met, but I respect their opinions and I know I'd like them a lot if I ever get to meet them.

Sorry Warren, I guess my post is a perfect example of what you dislike.

:agree:

Maybe if some people would lighten up, they would have more friends.

One is the values of this site, is that you make friends who will go out of their way to help you. To me, it's a value that no amount of money can be placed on.

I hope to meet you someday Bare.

There's another one of those syntax things: I hope to meet you someday, Bare.

What he said. AND mostly what SHE said. Yes I agree, but I don't agree with him, but ....

What a dry piece of toast this forum would be without some of the neighborly fluff we see here. I do agree with you Warren, that some of the ill-natured bantering detracts and upsets, but as for me and my house, bring on the butter and honey!

Sometimes it feels like family..comfort. .happy..sad...and hugs

OBXNana 02-03-2014 08:39 AM

Personally, I love the banter. We're in PA (snowing AGAIN!), settle on TV house 2/12, and can't officially move there for 2 or 3 years. I feel like I'm getting to know people through the knowledge they share, but also the banter. I can't banter, but feel more like a part of the group we're looking forward to becoming a part of in the future.

The only difference between a chat and a forum is the number of folks chatting. And, oh...that privacy thingie.

Personally, as someone new to The Villages, I have come to really look forward to TOTV. I enjoy the informality of it because it makes me feel so much more welcome to participate occasionally. I think of a forum as so formal, a place for debates, but the very name TALK of the Villages encourages conversation with each other.

I agree with you. It's more informal than a "forum" like you would find at a symposium, conference, or something like that.

And what I like about a forum over a chat room is that people are not on commenting all at the same time. I can't follow a chat room. It just goes down the screen in a line. On the forum, it's divided into subjects, and the posts come one at a time. In a chat room, they're all thrown together.
