Why would they want to pay the price that the developer demands, i do understand why. They should come into the Town of Lady Lake, like many of the major businesses have done in the last couple of years.

According to MeMason that is exactly right. They locate themselves in lower rent areas like their sister store, Aldi's.


A house or a business sells or rents for what the market is willing to pay.


What kind of business says....I am going to lower my rent so that all people who want to rent here can afford it? Or a person selling their home says, I think I can get $200 thousand for my home, but I will list it for $150K to help some poor family out?


NO one forces anyone to sign a lease. It goes both ways, the person who owns the property is interested in leasing to people who will be able to pay the rent. I would.

I tried to vote for a Trader Joe's in TV but I got an Oops! In other words, it didn't go through. Maybe it was because I was voting from Michigan. Anyway, I tried for you that love TJs.

TJs for me is just okay. When I lived in Virginia there was one about a half mile from my condo and I rarely went to it. It was always crowded and very hard to park. Someone mentioned that they tend to be in strip malls and I believe that is correct. The ones I have been to are in Falls Church/Alexandria, VA and Ann Arbor, Michigan. Both of these stores are in a very populated area.

Someone mentioned Lucky's in the comment section of the online newspaper. They said it was better -- especially for organic food. Has anyone shopped there?

I believe most grocery stores are in strip malls.

Coincidence this morning.......

I want to make French onion soup sometime soon so I was looking at recipes. They all use beef stock.......

Beef stock, organic or not, in a box or can or cube does not appeal to me. And it is always way too salty. But I do not want to boil a cow or whatever must be done to make beef stock from scratch.

And so I was moving on to peruse mushroom soup recipes when I was distracted by the recent issue of Real Simple magazine. On page 210 they are road testing broth and guess who won the beef broth prize.......Trader Joe's Organic Beef Broth. The quote from Real Simple says, "In a category full of bitter, salty, or artificially caramel-colored duds, this winner balanced genuine beef flavor with a smooth aftertaste." (While I find the word 'aftertaste' to be an odd choice of words, even if modified by the adjective 'smooth,' I do find this a promising review.)

And so, while I realize that this post is sort of off topic and while I realize that I have just revealed that I do not know the difference between broth and stock (or if there is one) I am wondering if anybody knows if they have a version of this stuff at Aldi.

I just want to make some soup this week.

Maybe Trader Joes and Costco could be on outparcels of the Macys/Sears mall we are waiting for.

I have bought both stock and broth at Aldi's. I think you would need to make your own comparisons with other brands. They all taste salty to me but I never tried the high end ones at Fresh Market.

I know you said it was too much work to make your own but I wonder if this would fill the bill.

Hey, a question to other cooks out there: Would roasting the veggies and bones improve the taste of the stock? It's only 1 extra step. I make chicken stock and I found if I roast the chicken pieces with uncut carrots, 1/2 onion pieces and celery after I make the stock the veggies are still edible, not all cooked out and it saves time.

Wegman's is the best market I have ever shopped in, in my life. Large fresh bakery, fresh foods daily, freshest meats, produce, fish. Impressive wine choices. Some even have pubs in them. every year they also seem to be at the top of the "best places to work" also.

So you set the broth and the onions and gruyere and baguette on the kitchen till Mr. Boomer comes along.

Not the same. There is a difference in products.

In the two cities where I now reside I am able to shop frequently at Trader Joe's and Costco. Both are great stores for different reasons. However, Wegman's and Central Market (Ft. Worth, TX) are incredible markets. Publix is also quite good IMHO.

Where I go the Trader Joe's are anchor tenants on strip malls. Anchor tenants usually get a lower rent per square foot because they bring in the business from which other tenants (and hence the landlord) may benefit.

As far as TV goes, probably the volume is not there compared to other sites where TJ's can readily locate. I read that the TJ's opening in S. Florida are within 100 miles of each other, probably for distribution purposes.

As far as a TJ store within TV, the developer, from what I have read, gets a big cut of gross sales on top of a base rent. TJ's may not go for that, especially when it has opportunities to more profitably locate stores elsewhere.

my problem with trader joes is that I own a digital kitchen scale and very rarely was the weight correct on their repackaged bulk goods sold in their containers, almost always they shorted the weight. sorry they are not an honest grocer.
