I rode down several years ago and stopped at Alabama Jacks in North Key Largo!
It's one of those small, fun, hole in the wall places that make it very hard to leave, but want to go back, kind of places.

It's on the water. Food was great, especially the conch fritters! They apparently have been voted the best around, and they are!

Ferry
 

I have heard that there is a ferry somewhere from the West Coast of Florida down to the keys. Does anybody know anything about that?

Go to Ft Meyers take the key west express you don’t need or want a car in Key West rent a bicycle

Key Largo, Marathon, isle Marada. Enjoy the ride. Very expensive to stay in Key West.

Milemarker 66 on gulf side travelling south always terrific but not cheap!

Everyone should visit KW once in their life time.

Just remember stay away on the weekends, it's a party island.
Also, if you drive, watch your speed.
Oh, and bring lots of $$$$$$

US 1 goes straight to Key West from Florida City but you can turn left and take Card Sound road to Alabama Jacks's and then follow it to where it again joins up with US 1 in Key Largo.

Half Way
 

We love Marathon. Half way between Key west and Key Largo. Lots of great restaurants.

Boonedocks tiki bar and restaurant ; Ramrod key MM 27.5. Pretty extensive menu. Interesting gift shop. They will bring you water for your pup. Evening bands are fun especially Howard Livingston; Trop Rock Band . Howard is a gifted songwriter. Enjoy.

I always recommend the Butterfly Conservatory as well. Dreamy place. Unique gift shop. Enjoy.
