Default Security Reminder

Please, please do not put your trash out 2-3 days before pickup. You might as well post a sign that says, "Come on in! Nobody's home and will not be home for some time. Help yourself to whatever you'd like."

I noticed trash out on Woodridge yesterday, it is still there today, and pick up day is Monday. For those of you who don't know, that is a well traveled, through street.

If we don't have much trash when we leave, we take it with us and put it in a trash container at a rest stop, or fast food area.

HOWEVER, this place may be different than where you used to live. At a given time thousands of home are empty of people here. That doesn't mean that they are all targets. This area is relatively safe, given the very miniscule number of break ins at this time.

But you are right, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Just enjoy the RELATIVE safety of The Villages and hope it lasts. And continue to be the eyes and ears that protect others.

I always put mine out 3 days ahead then sit inside with the shotgun.

What if you're the only one without trash out? Also, last saturday they didn't pick up our recycled and it sat out until monday. Was picked up only after I called and complained.

Yes indeed there are many unoccupied homes in TV at various times of the year but thieves are crafty and know that they hold little in the way of jewels and cash. Previous thefts in TV were reported as having jewelery and cash stolen; something they can stash in their pockets as they fade into the sunset. Vigilence is key.

A couple of our neighbors have keys to our house or we just leave one of them a garage opener and they put ours out when they do theirs. We do the same for them. If one of us is gone for several trash days, then we "share". We put some of ours in their drive and vice versa. Works great.

One neighbor down the street was broken into with cash and jewelry taken when he left town on Friday and put his trash out for Monday pickup.

Well, if it's my house without any trash it probably means that both my wife and I forgot it was trash day - again.

I sure hope somebody doesn't try to break into my house on the basis of no trash out thinking no one is home.
