Yes, there is potential for emotional divisions. Personally, I think it is possible to separate the office of the President from the actual person holding it.

Years ago I was in Berlin when President Clinton was visiting. He was not my choice and that time he was in the middle of the Lewinsky scandal. My feelings for him at that time were not particularly benevolent. I was interviewed on television asking me, as an American how did I feel about my seeing my President there. My answer was, it’s alway an honor to see the President of my country. Please act respectful of the office even if you do not respect the man.

So who has a golden ticket to attend ?

Then a sampling of registered Sumter County Republicans. |
Never say never about the President coming back to TV. There's still over a year before the 2020 election. I was 12 when Jack Kennedy made a campaign stop in my hometown, Roseville, MI. Shook his hand, so there Bill Clinton:icon_wink: It remains a highlight of my life experience. Would love to shake President Trump's hand also or any other elected President of this country.

"President Trump
The White House has released new details about President Trump’s planned visit to The Villages on Tuesday. The invitation-only event will be held at 2:15 p.m. at The Sharon L. Morse Performing Arts Center. The president is scheduled to speak about Medicare at the popular 1,000-seat Spanish Springs venue, though it’s unclear how long he will talk or exactly how many people will be attending the event. The White House also revealed late Friday afternoon that Trump will be arriving at Ocala International Airport aboard Air Force One on Tuesday at about 1 p.m. It’s unclear if he will travel to The Villages by motorcade or whether he’ll fly to the mega-retirement community via helicopter." Oh you better not pout
you better not shout you better not cry I’m telling you why Donald Trump is coming to town Second verse...? |
My guess is the entire square will be blocked off. I can't image they would let traffic drive past The Sharon.
One example - Some Prime Minister was visiting my home town and I was just trying to get home from the airport. A sheriff wouldn't even let me drive on the overpass (the Prime Minister was going to be in a car that went under that overpass). The sheriff wouldn't even let me get out of my car. A lot of security... and not even the president. |
No matter how you feel about this president... the fact that the president of the United States is coming to The Villages to deliver a speech is great PR for where we live. They believe The Villages is a strategic place to make a point or advance a program. I think that's a very good thing.

Business's will stay open. Square entertainment is a go. Market Night cancelled. Obviously roads will be closed, traffic rerouted.
