We bought in 2006 and moved here as full time residents summer 2007. It took my husband a matter of days to be comfortable and happy. It took me much longer, but I am happy. I love the beauty of the community. I actually feel very safe living here. I love the opportunities to do so much. I attend line dance classes every day and always look forward to my yoga classes through The Life Long Learning College. I walk dogs at All Creatures Animal Sanctuary which is my favorite thing in the world and this never would have happened if I didn't live here.
There are still times I feel something is missing. Therefore every year we take a vacation and we always look for day trips, restaurants and shopping outside The Villages when we (I) need a change of pace.

NOTHING you can buy will make you happy. Too many people think that a new car, new home, new man/woman, new golf clubs, new TV, etc. is all they need to make them happy. Happiness, or contentment comes from within, not from without. The Villages is a great place to live, but it won't make you happy unless you are predisposed to be happy. I think mostly happy, well adjusted people move to TV because they like the activities, the people of their age and interests, and the beauty. If they were not happy before, I fear they are not likely to be happy here. The evironment of TV is condusive to an active, healthy, entertaining lifestyle, but not everyone will avail themselves of those benefits. I guess I would say that is a good thing as there is only room for about 110,000 residents more or less, and there is not room for all the people who live in this world.

Good post, Ed! And how very true.

having grown up in NYC T am used to crowds and people 'scrambling' for resources, that really doesn't bother me and I think the population growth versus the increase in 'resources' when brownwood opens, will still relieve a large amount of the crowding. yes it is all I thought it would be and more, waking to beauty and friendly people, enjoying the facilities...when I was a kid I went to sleep-away camp in the summer, now I live in one year round!
