Default Saving our environment

Could we have some really good ideas on how to make our homes in The Villages more energy efficient. I have a couple things that I have done that have helped alot but am always searching for more .

1. Use insulated curtains on all windows. Helps keep hot air out, and cool air in

2. Unplug all electric things that are not being used. Even when not being used they still use electric

3. Shut water off when brushing teeth.

4. Reuse plastic bags for wastebasket liners.

I'm wondering .. do they have three-stream recycling in the Villages? (Compost, garbage and recycle?)

No recycling here I'm afraid to say.

Have noticed how long it takes for hot water to come to the shower head in your Villages home (at least our villa). A friend of mine found a solution to speed this process up and it conserves water. Turn-on both the shower head and the sink hot water. It reduces the time to get hot water by several minutes. It has something to do with the mixing valves. Weird ....but it works.

Good hint re getting hot water .. you're right, it is weird, but we'll try it.

I can't believe Florida doesn't recycle. That is so environmentally harmful. We've been doing two-stream recycling forever at our home in Canada and they're starting three-stream in September.

Do they recycle in other States?

There was an article in The Daily Sun that stated The Villages may start recycling by the end of this year. I certainly hope so. I am from Pennyslvania and we always recycled - we had a special bin for paper, glass and plastic and everything else was considered trash & would be placed in a trash bag.
