it wasn't a virus, they didn't pay their domain host, when they did the site came back, but it has been fun reading this nonsense.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phishing

It was phishing by manipulating links.

i might ask where you came up with this being a phishing scheme. 25 years as an iT consultant is where I get it. I did nothing to my machine and poof the site returned. I guess you have no experience with domains and hosting of sites but when the fee goes unpaid your site disappears and you get random sites that the host rents domains to. this discussion would end if the admin piped in.

must be an internet provider issue. I haven't had any problems.

site has been up two days since.

dewilson58 04-14-2016 08:28 AM

it was interesting how i was redirected to goodmayor, which is/was a virus and interesting how my scans found a redirect virus and how it was fixed the same day the redirect first showed up and how some users had redirect issues for days and like cquick, some users never has an issue...........maybe it was the speed of cquick that was able to get around a domain issue.

hmmmmmm

I am not at all technically inclined, but I have a 2012 Macbook Pro still running the original operating system (saying it will no longer support google chrome which I prefer to Safari), and I have MacKeeper virus protection. Our service provider is Comcast. So far, I have had no issues with TOTV.

Bosoxfan 04-14-2016 10:36 AM

I had a service tech from Century Link here for a couple hours today.(Tuesday)He was on the phone most of the time trying to figure out the problem. .It definitely is a problem with their Internet being spoofed, phished, or hacked. When he was leaving her felt confident that they would figure it out and apparently they have.

Seems like a hacker is targeting our demographic because this is the only site they see to have had this problem. Although I'm not sure but I heard other ISP'S have had this same problem recently. Please if this happens to you in the future don't panic and start paying for virus removal because although it feels like you have a virus and the messages you are receiving make you think you have a virus YOU DON'T. The problem is with your Internet provider. Just call them and let them know the problems you are having. This will save you aggravation & money

Unable to get Classified's now

I have tried clearning cookies/caches, deleting browsing history, deleting the link to talkofthevillages and running a security scan. Nothing works. I keep getting diverted to ww2.talkofthevillages which takes me to "goodmayor". I called our internet provider and they told me it must be coming from an advertisement on talkofthevillages. He spent an hour on the phone with me trying to help. Our provider is At&T Uverse...so it is not just Century Link and Comcast that are having this problem.

I thought the problem was solved, but was wrong. I can now get on to TOTV's threads, but when I try to get "Classifieds", I do not get any classified ads and get a message that says that it can't find the "server" at ww2.talkofthevillages", so something is still going on.

That doesn't explain why many of us have experienced no interruption. If the host shut it down for non-payment, no one could get on.

Be careful..............you are using logic on ToTV.

there has been no interruption for 2 days now. the only one who can tell you definitively is the host and he has been silent.

it was a virus? the SITE was a virus? not when I saw it. deceptive site does not mean it is a virus, it just means it has a suspect security signature and could, repeat, could have malware. i only was redirected for a day and did nothing to fix it.
