Is this ultimate entitlement by Villagers ? You are unsafe. Follow the rules that the rest of us (most of us) follow. When you don't, you are endangering all others.

Question: If he turned into the parking space BEHIND you, how were you in any danger? Or was it his finger that was "unsafe"??? Perhaps he took exception to your role as "enforcer of the painted aisle arrows in the parking lots". I am not defending him, per se, but I can see how he might have become irritated.

I have seen some shouting matches with cars backed up when someone goes up the down lane in the Publix parking lot . I do think they need cameras covering their parking lots unless they already have them but do not advertise that.

Yes, we shop at both of these places and always park in pull-thru spots or we back into a parking spot.

Now this is very confusing……..

What use would the cameras be since nobody is going to do anything about it?

If they shoot like they drive it may not be a problem.

None of this is new. People cut across parking lanes, go the "wrong way", park facing the wrong direction, but usually do it safely; i.e. giving right-of-way to those that have it. I don't see a problem. Parking lot markings are guides and may provide you with help or hindrance if you are hit or hit someone. Late at night it's common to see someone start to park and move across lanes when they see a spot closer, or in the daytime, when they start to park and see a shady spot a lane or two over. Again, I don't have a problem if done safely.

My goal was to alert him to his behavior. Why are rules for everyone except him? He is putting everyone at risk with his behavior.
I was not an enforcer: I was simple crossing the parking lot.

It was your fault. You should have parked in a pull-thru spot.

We never - and I mean NEVER - park in a spot that requires us to back up in order to leave.

Spot I parked in was against the median (no pull thru).

Same here. I always pull through when ever there are pull through spots available in a lot. I will walk further just to get a pull through spot. The smaller lots don't have those pull through spots.

I will do the same whenever possible. Little extra walking never hurts

I believe the people who do this have lost the skill to safely back their vehicle because they can't see who or what's behind them. Watch some pull out of the driveway and don't even see traffic coming up the street and they are not about to stop for anyone. Part of the parking lot follies here in the Villages!

Would we be in trouble if everybody pulled in backwards into parking spaces! A great many cannot even drive well going forward! Most spots in parking lots are not pull through and rudeness has become a part of our culture, seemingly in every way. Rude, inconsiderate and selfish and taking from the people who obey the rules. If this keeps up, we may have to sleep with a gun under our pillows.

In my working days for a big company, it was mandated that you back into a parking place. The reason was that at the end-of-shift, it was like the Indy 500 with people racing to leave. Security dept. felt it was safer to not have folks backing out slowly. I always look for a spot I can pull-through or if traffic is light, back into. I'll frequently park farther out to find one and let the "old folks" (LOL, that's me now) have the closer in spots.

Ptmcbriz 04-26-2025 08:28 AM

No need to point out he was going the wrong way. He already knew that. Pointing out the obvious would be a trigger for that type of person. Do it and expect the same reaction next time, because that’s how they are. Life is too short. Allow them to be and you go on ignoring their idiocy and enjoy your day.

STRONGLY AGREE …
Definitely NOT JUST in the Villages.

WHY that I am oh so Grateful that mom taught me to be a “Defensive Driver” when first began using the road.

BASICALLY anybody and everyone around me IS capable of doing something Dangerous that may cause an Accident without Notice and in a Split Second …

… SO I should Constantly be Aware of my Surroundings and Stay Fully Alert - and Guarded !!

OF COURSE this also MUST be
Applied when I am a Pedestrian.

WE cannot prevent the Behavior of others, and Definitely should NOT instigate the “unhealthy” Drivers Actions

AND unfortunately
the passengers are
collateral damage
