I don't go now and its free entrance, but I do feel badly for the many residents who frequent the squares. There is too much speculation going on here. It would seem that the new owners made their purchase because they recognized it was profitable. I would guess that they know their market and won't do anything that will remove their market. I am also curious as to what affct that wil have on those folks who reside outside The Villages? It was inevitable that change was gong to occur. As a side bar I can't hlp but wonder if there is any connection to the Developer's movs to sell the Daily Sun, Entertainment Media, Inc. etc. to that of the IRS bond Issue????

It is what it is...........................

And the beat goes on. There certainly is too much speculation.

All because somebody heard something from somebody, somewhere. The original question is a form of rumor spreading.

Rubicon: What new owners, what purchase? I must have missed something when I was out of town for a few days.

Perhaps it the OP views it as an inquiry? The wording in the original post did not sugesst that it was judgmental.

And as the OP pointed out twice, he was concerned that it was just a rumor and he wanted to have our help to stop it from spreading, if it in fact was a rumor.

Had it been a rumor about a five guys or trader joe's coming to TV there would have been dozens of hopeful and excited posts. Since it was something that could be construed as negative for the community or the developer it spawned outrage. Just sayin......

You know I feel I want to say more, well, because I always have a lot to say. But I've written three mini-sermons on other threads in the last couple of days, all basically aimed at the same thing. Trying to explain that just because you feel OK as a part of a majority, it doesn't diminish the importance of the minority. What you may just dismiss as political correctness run amok, may actually be very important, or hurtful to someone else.

But I don't see any reason to go through this again, because frankly I don't think I'm changing anyone's viewpoint. So I'm just talking to hear my head rattle as my grandfather used to say, and he was a very smart man.

So I'll just say thank you again to the adminstrator and moderators on here for attempting in enforce civility (there is a thankless job.) And to all of those here that attempt to be thoughtful. I hope you all continue to speak out, especially the many of you in the last few days who have said you never post any more because of the nasty people who jump on your. I think they really are a small number, and most of the folks here are pretty cool. This is a very useful site and I cherish it, and 99% of the people here, even most of those I might disagree with.

Oh, and I heard a rumor that 5 Guys and Trader Joe's are coming. I hope it's true.

But....................

Back to the OP rumor that was presented (on the closed thread);
This is her question:

"This morning while shopping, a business man mentioned that he attended a meeting this morning at Lake Sumter. He told me The Villages will no longer have entertainment at the town squares….starting in Jan. He also mentioned that an estate sale would require a $ 50 permit and 2 “security” type people must be present. Yard sales would no longer be allowed."

_____________

-no entertainment at the squares (maybe that might happen)
-estate sale require $50 and security (so far out, it is laughable)
-yard sales no longer allowed (even more laughable)
Because of the two latter outlandish statements, makes the first even less believable (at this time).
It all sounds like a tongue in cheek statement made by the person in the store and the lady who heard it was far too gulliable.
I'm still waiting for someone to confirm that this is all true

No yard sales does not seem to me to be that far fetched. We live in a lake community in Missouri and our lake only allows garage/yard sales one weekend a year. The reason being, the congestion of traffic and people parking in the street is considered a dangerous situation.

Was the rule in place when you bought in?

It was when I bought here ten years ago. It was not originally in the by laws of the association. Was put into the by laws several years after many others had purchased. For example, in TV it used to be that real estate signs were allowed in yards north of 466 - no more.
