What exactly is the basis for your comment that it won’t be till June or so???

With the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, there might be some uncertainty about the whether the vaccine prevents infection or disease. You can have the infection without developing the actual COVID disease (essentially the symptoms that may put you in the hospital). The implication is that if it doesn't prevent infection then you may still be contagious even if you have taken the vaccine and it is working (you haven't developed the disease). Presumably, this would argue for continued mask usage and social distancing. The Phase 3 testing of the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine focused on whether people developed disease. The Moderna Phase 3 trial actually tested for indications of infection. We shall see.

I heard that once you receive the vaccine you will need to continue with masks and social distancing.

Like most things there are no simple yes, no answers.

Vaccine

My husband is a doctor and received his first vaccine yesterday. It was mandatory for all healthcare workers at his hospital. After getting the shot, he said he felt “a little funny”, not really light headed, but somewhat disoriented (brain fog). Other than that, his arm didn’t hurt, etc. By dinner time, he said he was feeling run down. He went to lie down around 8, highly unusual for him. He said he was just feeling tired. I offered him a nice massage and he gladly accepted. He fell asleep in a few minutes.

This morning he was up at 0600 and is heading out for his power walk. He says he feels fine. In 21 days he will get his second shot.

While we are both aware that getting this vaccine won’t guarantee immunity, it does give us hope. It’s been a rough year. A nurse on his staff was recently taken off his ventilator. He leaves 2 small children behind. Thus, I do pray that this vaccine works and I understand the priority given to the most vulnerable first. I’ll patiently wait my turn.

We might have to bring a tent to overnight while we line up. Maybe it should be done in the recreational centers, by alphabet or by age but I do believe we definitely need a plan and some serious organization.

Any plan that puts those who have refused to wear masks and socially distance at the end of the line will have my wholehearted support.

Another one closes because people can't keep their political views to themselves.
