After reading all these posts and calling on my own experiances, I've arrived at a bottom line which says there are lots of ****tty drivers in TV, both Cars and Carts.

I've been making right turns this way for a couple of years, it takes away all doubt of where and when you intend to turn. Golf carts merge into the car lane, why not cars merge into the cart lane.

Since I live off St. Charles, a road with golf cart paths on both sides, it makes a lot of sense. I often see cars and carts doing the turn dance at Buttonwood Run and Pennecamp. If you see a line of golf carts and you are going to make a right turn, look for a gap ahead, if necessary speed up or slow down and slide your car slightly to the right and engage your turn signal. The carts behind you now know what you're doing and there won't be this hesitation and cars behind you won't be delayed as much. Don't move completely into the lane, just a couple of feet over the line is enough to telegraph your intentions.

My hubby does the same thing.

There are also the impatient ones - a car is stopped , trying to make a left turn and the car behind can't wait so they pass the stopped car on the right side, using the golf cart lane...

Resident almost 10 years----saw this only once but definite dangerous and illegal. :cus:

I turn onto cosmos which is a very short distance. Carts come around the corner onto hillsborough without the need to yield because they have their own lane. If no carts are there, I hug middle between the two lanes. The other place is on hillsborough between warlock and the mail boxes. Virtually the same circumstances. I am in both locations frequently in the cart and car so I am cautious.

I haven' encountered that situation yet---I go thru the Hillsborough gate but don't turn right until Warnock. I'll be on the lookout for it, thanks

And that is really the key, John - helping to ensure that everyone knows what your intentions are.

Maybe some cart drivers will get upset at your being in "their" lane, but that is a small price to pay if it helps to avoid accidents.

At a drivers' safety course we were told that the vehicle which is ahead has the right of way.
