Plan to run your pool filter to prevent freeze?
I am going to run mine tonight...i hope that will be good enough to keep pipes and pump from freeze...

It should be. It worked in Las Vegas when the temp went into the 20's.

I ran mine last night. It's needed to protect solar heater pipes too.

shouldn't your system have an automatic 'on' feature when the temp approaches freezing? Ours came standard with that and both our pools were built about the same time.

Most(?) pool filter pump controls have a cycle labeled something like "freeze protection" which at a selected temperature automatically turn on anything that has water flowing through it.
Regard solar panels the recommended freeze mode is to set the solar valve on bypass....no water get s pumped to the panels. Turn off the pool filter and wait at leat one and a half hours to let the panels drain down. Then turn the bypass valve to stop water from flowing to the panels when the pool pump comes on. Then on the temperature control for the solar system be sure to turn it to off. I have heard some folks state that keeping the solar system on allows the water to continue to cycle through the panel works as well. All I know is I follow the procedure of the manufacturer and the installing company. If you have a waterfall in conjunction with the pool, it needs to be turned on as well. Also, turn on any waterfall decorative devices anywhere else outside. |

My pool was installed 7 years ago and came on automatically early this morning due to low temps.

We came home around 9P and the filter was already running automatically. Now that's cold. Usually in cold weather it hasn't cycled on until 2-4A at the earliest.
